Realm Divide triggers?

Having conquered 21 provinces as Mori in my legendary domination campaign I stopped and made peace with everyone as I wanted to build up my treasury before taking Kyoto and triggering RD and to use my monks to create a buffer zone of rebels around me.

But after only a couple of turns a rebel army popped up in my last conquered province of Owari (despite their being half a stack in the castle, an elite full stack outside and no enemy monks in the vicinity) and I had no choice but to fight them - and the victory triggered RD.

This triggered the usual piling on of former friends and allies, the collapse of trade and bankruptcy which has forced me to attack and loot captured enemy capitals just to keep afloat financially and might force me to have to disband armies and fleets and pull back and abandon multiple provinces.

So has anyone calculated the impact of different factors on RD?

I assumed it was almost entirely provinces conquered but clearly winning any victory also has an effect.

(Having said this its actually rather cool that I am having to fight so hard at a stage when every other TW late game has been a cakewalk to final victory - and having seen how easy it is with maxed-out monks and an AI that inexplicably leaves key frontier provinces undefended I can't help but see the incite rebellion mechanic as verging on an exploit).

In my knowledge clan fame is affected by at least two things:

(1) Number of provinces
(2) Number of landmarks

When I take a screenshot and measure the clan fame yellow bar, the clan fame bar is 168 pixels in length when it is full. For a domination campaign, each additional province and landmark gives 6-7 extra pixels of fame. So if you have no landmark, you can actulaly hold 23 provinces and still does not trigger RD! But each additional landmark reduces your province count by 1.

In your case, you probably beat an opposition so large that you earned an extra landmark? Or any battle with a huge number of kill counts even though the landmark might not be visible (blocked by the castle icon, etc.)Ideally, we should avoid fighting big battles before the Realm Divide.

Checked and that battle did indeed get me a landmark even though it was autoresolved as I basically had a veteran elite full stack under my best general fighting a half stack of Oda rebels.

As they had been knocked back to the frontier they had no retreat so there was presumably no way I could avoid killing them all and getting a landmark even if I fought the battle myself (must look up the 'what gives you a landmark' thread again).

So in hindsight the safest thing would have been to have not fought them at all, split my elite stack in half to cover the port and farms and waited for winter attrition to kill them off.

Or better still next campaign I will stop expanding at the 20 province mark rather than 21.

Anyway I now have to go and loot Suruga or my faction will go bankrupt next turn (although as I can see happiness decline as my Daimyo loses honour I am also having to re-garrison all the places in Kyushu and Western Honshu that I left empty - so who knows how long this will work for...)

I sincerely hope that RD is only affected by the number of provinces. We should be happy to earn those landmarks, not screaming "one less province, DOH!" upon seeing it.
