Re: A slight modification
Were you planning on new units or buildings? For the new factions, are you going to reuse existing flag/shield graphics, or create your own?
Has anyone figured out the Viking raid mechanism, does it only apply to the faction FN_07? You might only be able to allow one Scandinavian faction to raid.

I was planning to simply use the same unit roster for Danes/Norwegians, although if I created a Strathclyde faction I would want to create heavy cavalry of some kind. I was intending to create a new unit sig for the Norweigans, based on St. Olav's battle standard.
Re: A slight modification
Changing the name of the Welsh should be fairly easy, you just need to scrounge around in the various names.txt, changes.txt, viking_faction_specific.txt, etc. files and to change how actions/characters of the Welsh are presented in text.
For new factions, I suggest starting with starkhorn's guide. The guide is mostly geared to the MTW grand campaign, but it should get you started. Instead of early.txt/high.txt/late.txt you will be changing the viking.txt startpos file. Once you determine the unit roster and buildings available to the new factions, you will need to edit the vikings_unit_prod.txt and vikings_build_prod.txt to make sure the new factions get access to the units/buildings. Make backups!

Thanks drone!
Real noob question here; how do I get into the game script?
Re: A slight modification
Just right click on the shortcut, should bring up all the files. Then you can use notepad to open up that file(s). Make sure you have made a backup and then pull the file out onto your destop. Should be able to open the file from desktop and it would use notepad (99% of the time). make your changes, save and then re-insert the new file back into the shortcut. close the shortcut down, double-click to start as normal, cross your fingers and see if it works!
All of what I said is for a Windows based computer:creep:
