I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
I did.
A relative of my wife died about 20 years ago and we went to clear out the house. In doing so, I happened across a copy Herr Schiklgrubers' tome.
I didn't read it and stuck it on the bookshelf. Around a decade later my eldest lad saw it and asked to borrow it, so lent it to him.
Anyroad I spoke with him this afternoon and asked him if he still had the book.
"I dunno", he said, "I just stuck it in the attic, I think, errr....I've forgeotten now, errr...was it the attic?"
No news as to it's whereabouts so far.
I'll keep you all in the loop.

Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
I have a copy, see no problem with that, I also have Triumph das Willens on DVD. It is just fun to have.
-
Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
I heard it was badly written, but that's hearsay, never read it myself.
-
Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
I did not know it was a big deal, even in the West. We had one in the school library when I was a kid. Tried reading it but got bored and left it in some five pages.

My german sucks so I don't know. But it's awesome to just have. it was translated in Hebrew imagine that, if I find that one I will get that one as well.

Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
It is very poorly written, but it also gives a certain amount of insight into the twisted workings of Herr Schickelgruber's mind. I think history would have turned out differently if people had heeded the warnings in that book. He clearly laid out his aims and goals when it came to the Jews, Germany, communism, and the rest of Europe, and ultimately made good on most all of them. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
I've also seen Triumph des Willens, Der Erwige Jude, and a few other Nazi propaganda films (and a bunch of US ones for that matter). They're all part of that period of history, watching them gives more insight and understanding of the way various people thought and lived in those days.

Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
It's pretty good. It shows you that what people think is insane is kind of sane, just extremely unpopular and probably not the best way to do things. I'd like to see each of you write a book, then we can talk.
-
Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
Uh... You say you have a copy like it something special on an international forum.
Please remember that the rest of the world don't have the same tradition of banning books. I have a german copy and swedish copy. Information wants to be free.
I found the book utter rubbish, the best thing I can say about it is that it completely negates any argument the germans can have of "they didn't know".
Even in their day, before the internet, all the info was out there. They could have informed themselves before voting. But sadly, that is not how democrazy works.

There isn't any antisemitism in it that much I know, I don't blame the Germans for taking a ride to insanity, you just can't know where to exit. They are victims of the nazi regime as well and payed a most horrible price

Maybe you should read the whole book then.
And the Germans and Austrians deserved everything they got.

Show me and I will agree. but in general I think WW2 is just something that happened to the Germans as well, no need to hold a grudge.

No way. Google it or read the damn book. I won't do your homework for you. YOU referenced to it. I am just saying you are wrong. Same rules as with the bibles-people, if you make the statement you prove it.

I don't believe in "bad" just as little as I believe in "evil". People with mental mechanisms who thought something was the best solution spread this solution to the rest of the country at large, and the country at large with THEIR mental mechanisms agreed.
That is how democracy works.
That is how it worked invading Poland.
That is how it worked invading Iraq.
The problem isn't "bad" leaders, the problem is an uninformed mass.

I think we have a lot of both.
What I said is not close to what you said, and the part you disagree with should give you the full explanation as to why.

:book2:
We both agree that the ignorant populace is to blame.
However, the difference in semantics as to the leaders is important. I for one believe no one wakes up thinking "today I am gonna be bad" or "today I am gonna be evil".
People wake up doing their utmost to do their best.
Instead of brushing the wrongdoers of history aside as "bad" or "evil" I find it way more giving and enlightening to study why they thought the thing they did was for the best, so that everyone can learn from it.
HoreTore can probably explain it better than me. He's from the country who let a madman just have 9 weeks of court with experts from around the world trying to explain why this madman did the things he did.
And I agree.
To brush people of as "bad" or "evil" is just way to easy.

FRAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really man, I am your strongest supporter around here. When you are in the right I have defended you, and you know it.
That, however, does NOT give you a free pass to skip the basics in a discussion.

The black-haired Jewish youth lies in wait for hours on end, satanically glaring at and spying on the unsuspicious girl whom he plans to seduce, adulterating her blood and removing her from the bosom of her own people. The Jew uses every possible means to undermine the racial foundations of a subjugated people. (Book 1 Chap 11)

In his defense, he didn't say he had actually gotten any info from them, he just said he had them.
Attacking him, I might add that my fifth graders would have a deeper understanding at large. At least they know that owning a book isn't as good as reading a book.
This... This might be the most stupid thread I have yet to witness.
Sorry Frags, your credibility is on zero with me henceforth. And I do mean an absolute zero.

Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
I know that when making fun of people who are "outraged", Ann Coulter likes to often make references to the book; as in "so and so was talking like they were reading aloud from mein kampf" or "that sounds like a passage frome mein kampf"
Really, I just think she is just trying to sound smarter than other people, because the overwhelming majority of americans have no idea what the book is or what it means, but seriosuly, she mentions it like every 5th interview

Re: I had a copy of Mein Kampf.
I blame capitalism.
It were bad economic times and since money is the most important issue in capitalism, people cared more about the promise of jobs than anything else mister Schickelgruber said.
If you don't believe me, look what a minor monetary crisis has done to Greece and their voting habits.
In the US they started wars over taxes and slaves, also monetary issues. Don't tell me that stuff about states rights, that's just masking other monetary issues.
Money kills!

It never ceases to amaze me, as to how even the vilest men can sometimes have a few decent notions.

It's absolutely unreadable crap. I keep it as a curiosity and it's just cool to have it, never made it past page 2 reading it.

You shouldn't have made claims that you weren't sure about. I didn't read it either. So I was wondering who to trust about that book.
