how can i build foot knights?

i know this has been adressed before but....
how on earth do i build foot knights, the feudal ones...since i can't dismount my feudal knights, do i need to edit a file or something..... sorry if this is repetition...

Good question!

As Britain I took Ile de France when the French collapsed. Cool! +1 valour for chivalric foot knights...

The only foot knights I have seen on the screen are in AI controlled armies. All the knights I produce are mounted. Period.

"The Chart" or the bible for building, lists the same req's for both types, but the game only lets me build mounted knights.

Knights must be dismounted to get foot knights. There are no knights without horses. As indeed there should not be.

Right before u hit begin battle, right click uhh lets say u have gothic knights, u right click on the icon of gothic knights and go down to the bottom and click on dismount/remount.

Must I point out that loyalist rebellions and enemy factions can both produce foot knights quite specifically?

I haven't tried this, but I suspect that you can add them into the game with relative ease.

Go into the crusader file, find the unit description for the foot knight unit in question, and add in some prereq buidlings. They should start showing up when you play the game...

No, what he means is that knights need horses to have a strategic existence, they require too much supply to tranport without horse.

when i try to dismount my feudal knights...the option is grayed out. this is during deployment mode of battle...is there some other time that you do it? or what gives?

To dismount Feudal Knights you have to be in a siege... Don't know if you have to be the defender.

This can be easily edited in the crusader_unit_prod11.txt file.

Find the line beginning with Feudalknights.

On that same line, find the entries:

FeudalFootKnights SWORD

and change to:

FeudalFootKnights YES SWORD

There should be a TAB between each word. Now dismounting should be an option before each battle, not only sieges.

Hmmm...so does that mean that the knights get the bonus when produced (as mounted) or did the devs screw up? Why would they reference it when you don't build them that way? Odd.

I have successfully employed the right click before battle to dismount royal knights and it wasnt a siege.

In the early period knights almost never dismounted for open field battle. Later on it became commonplace so there is a time after which they can do so in the game. I don't remember what the year is but CA did a nice job acknowledging the evolving change in tactics.

Wait....in Saxony the province sheet says "Historically this province was famous for producing Gothic Foot Knights blah blah blah" but when I produce Gothic Knights there they don't get the bonus, and when I dismount them in battle they don't get the bonus either....I don't understand?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif
