In M2TW's engine, when you chase down routing enemies, you are not actually killing them, but capturing them. There is a counter in the lower right, those are the men up for ransoming at the end of a battle...
Unfortunately there is no animation for your soldiers capturing the enemy, consider them incapacitating the enemy...
