Minor Settlements

I think minor settlements represents historical cities that couldn't find place in the most important 199 cities of campaign map. I want to know that minor settlements represents which cities. Where can I find this information?

I am not entirely sure what the EB meant for all of the minor settlements (particularly those outside of the Mediterranean sphere) but this fellow has an incredibly well-done and well researched set of maps you can cross-reference when looking at the settlements to figure out what places they may be representing. Anatolia is particularly detailed.

Are there other sites useful for Ancient era?

I cannot think of any sites at the moment, other than the rather good one already posted. But I cannot recommend enough, the three books in this series. I find invaluable
