Hastati Vs. Principes

After the Polybian reform, I am left wondering what's the use of getting Principes if Hastati are cheaper AND better in melee?

Am I underestimating the awsome benefits of the cavalry bonus? As opposed to the hastati's swimming trunks?

I sincerely pray to the gods of whatever factions you are currently campaigning under that this is not a dumb or redundant question (couldn't find it answered here).

the principes aren't even fully implemented in the latest release (the image you see is from EB I). in the trunk (which now has it), they have more armor, better morale, but similar attack. Till the models are implemented, and a full account of their equipment is stocked, no new stats are provided them, and they'll often use placeholder stats.
