I think the climate was great here a time ago, but lately... I don't know...
I'd vote Montmorency and PVC to get mod rights... The calmest heads around...

Oh no!
Not if you hold me down and staple the mask to my face!
For one thing I'm not really suited to it, for another I disagree violently on moderating policy with Beskar, and he's the Admin.
* We don't talk about sex now...
* That's why I recommend you.
All: Don't read this as that much criticism.. I still SO prefer what we have to what we had.
With that said, I even rolled my eyes that some things I wrote was ok... A warning point here and there can work wonders :)
I can only answer for myself... But: "The general tone".
Beskar, I think you have done a DAMN good job... I salute you in every way possible, and would gladly buy you a beer...
From my perspective, it is not that you have done anything wrong, it's just that we need more eyes and ears.
Let me make one thing clear, I do NOT, I repeat, NOT talk about replacing mods, I am talking about adding mods.
I firmly believe that people grow when they get responsibility, and that a team need many perspectives.
I only blame you for being a human with a real world to deal with. When you have acted, in each and every situation I have seen, I have found it OK to GREAT.
But the general tone has... I dunno... It isn't as good as a year ago. And the trolling has gone up.
To combat that you need TIME and ENERGY, not a change of rules...
So again, this is with the deepest respects (I should have made that clear in the OP, sorry, I suck at OPs).

To be fair, we have lost a number of very active members in the BR over the past year so thats why discussion has gone down I think.
Beskar is a great moderator as he acts completily neutral. I don't understand why this thread exists.
To be fair, you would probably receive a larger brunt of it. :laugh4:
"Becareful of what you wish for"
On a side note, the biggest complaint about the Backroom I have received from newer/irregulars is that it is considered too right-wing/racist and this apparently stops people feeling welcome and prefer to avoid the place, with an apparent hostile atmosphere towards non-regulars. The problem here, is that I personally don't want to censor peoples opinion and in fact, encourage opinions to be challenged as long as it doesn't cross certain lines. This has been a disagreement with my moderation as I haven't locked down certain posts and threads.
On the otherside, we have also lost quite a few posters which used to frequent in the past like Hooah has pointed out due to real life, lack of interest in Total War, or more unfortunate reasons.
I've been a longtime lurker here (since Tribesmen and the guy from Norway RIP) and I've learned a lot. My first post here isn't exactly common sense but it seems like it's okay to be racist here. Removed.
Why this isn't acknowledged is beyond me. Maybe cus I'm a newbie.
The problem is the subtle-racism and overt-racism line. I do crack down on the overt 'n-words' and such like, but with topics like immigration, it is something that is constantly in the news and there are indeed those who would prefer less immigration.
Now, not everyone who is against immigration is a racist. So there this is a thin-line where it can cross into over-moderation pretty easy, so I attempt to tackle the overt instances the most.
I don't see the point of more moderation in the Backroom anymore - it's too small. Furthermore, I'm not the person for the job.
As for newcomers and lurkers feeling uncomfortable, well, I don't see what we could do besides outright banning certain members. At that point it just comes back to the numbers though; it won't improve the overall situation. Either way, the culture of the Old Org is but history now. May as well enjoy what we have while we still can.
We have to provide what the youth wants, and the youth wants Justin Bieber. We should stop focusing on Total War and re-brand ourselves as a Justin Bieber fan forum, and our ranks will swell.
That's a bannable offense. @Beskar :smash:
What! I've barely been around in the last two years. I expected the tone of the place to have raised in my absence?
More seriously; I think all should understand just how difficult it is to moderate a free-form off-topic/politics sub forum.
I remember BG with particular fondness, but all of the BR mods have my upmost respect and admiration.
For me, life got in the way, but I hope to spend more time on the .Org in future.
Pretty much your entire outlook on life, your policy toward moderation, your internet and real life politics.
If you want a specific example, I think you locked Strike's thread too late to avoid it getting nasty but too early for it to achieve catharsis .
Like all good Englishman I crave the iron fist of a man who is better bred and more expensively educated than myself.
Sadly, as I come from impoverished gentry and am lacking at least one Great-Great grandparent the bar there is quite high.
:laugh4: Ouch. Makes me curious with your opinions on what those are, but probably better for a different place.
Was one of those matters where I didn't really want to be seen locking down discussion in a somewhat tyrannical way, since after all, it was discussing staff.
Isn't that what we want in moderators? Spread of views.
Moderating the Backroom is not an easy job and some topics get under people's skin way to easy so keeping calm is not always what one can expect of a human. Best response sometimes is editing with or responding with :flowers:
You are free to take offence. I think most here understand that my views are much more nuanced than they sometimes can look like. I like to be sarcastic just as much as people like to be politically correct. It never gotten me a warning from Beskar so it's all in the comfort-zone
Isn't that part of the problem? People who don't know you don't know anything about you than what they read.
I know that you're not a bad guy but you sometimes do appear like one.
Part of the reason I sometimes engage in discussion here is that I do not want outsiders to think that certain (seemingly) extreme views appear here unopposed. I have realized though that it has become almost futile by now and people still stay away thinking that this is a racist cesspool. Might as well stay away more often myself and leave what looks like a right wing circlejerk behind. For me it would save a lot of hours.
