How do i promote a family member to general i cant find my family tree?

Your faction icon at the center of the bottom line takes you to your family tree, but you do not make them generals there. To make a someone a general you need to have an army that is missing a general. Either remove a general from an existing army or raise a new army. You will then have a pop-up with available people to make the general of that army. The list doesn't specify, who is a family member, so you need to check beforehand in the family tree.
