i started as denmark, i got a really bad start. in 1280 i still only have scandinavia, scotland, ireland and rhodos.

im at peace with almost everyone, i have plenty of money thanks to trading, i have atleast 1 ship in every seazone.

suddenly france start war with me attacking my ships, its already in war with 3 other factions. Next year HRE join the war on France side. The year after that Hungery attacks my ships, and the next year the pope attacks my ship too. Which is bigger then i have ever seen it. from south of Italy as we know it today, southern and western france (I cant see how it looks like in the inland.

Within 4 years 4 faction attacks me, why? Im the smallest faction i have maybe 4 stacks with men.

This question have been up b4, but then the anser was then that the player was the biggest and all ganged up on him/her, but now im the smallest and all gang up on me anyway. Why is that???

Thats not an acceptable anser cus then HRE should always wipe out Denmarke in the beginning but they dont.

And how would every nation know that im the smallest if they dont have any priest, emissary or somthing like that in every of my territory

If I'm the AI then I might attack the biggest threat (specifically if that threat is vulnerable) and the size of an empire does not denote the size of the threat. IMO.

HRE v Denmark, yup your right, but that's probably a quirk in the code, most likely quite deliberate. Doesn't mean in other situations, specifically vs. the player that the AI won't react accordingly.

HRE not attacking Denmark makes for a better game. The AI attacking a player in a similar situation makes for a better game. Sometimes the AI gets it right, sometimes not, in your case, seems it did http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif

I wasnt at war with anyone till France attacked me 1280 something, I was in peace and ally with almost everyone.

they can still move their troops and trade if im allied or just neutral with the other factions, that wasnt a good reason to attack

My first 10 campaigns it seemed like it was me vs. the world, but you can usually control it. Try to war with countries who are already at war with others and who's alliances won't cause many of yours to be broken. I believe the AI follows this strategy, so once you have no alliances and are at war with two+ other factions, you become a target of opportunity for other factions. They have nothing to lose (alliances) and figure you are fighting on many fronts already. Once you have a war with so many enemies, it's hard to reverse. Wipe out the weaker enemies, use spies to cause rebellions and then broker ceasefire with stronger factions. Try to make any alliances that you can (hard to do while at war with many) but do so as soon as you can. You may just have to fight this one out and be more aware of it next time.

Nah its nothing that elaborate - In a game I was playing the AI as the english kept making war and attacking my ships for no reason - they had no intention of attacking and we had no common border - all I can think is maybe cause I was allied with the french and neutral to them and they were at war with the french - if not then its just random generated computer bullsh*t - ie. turn x - enemy y neutral y*0.5 ally y*01%

A good strategy is to discourage attack. Keep a lot of men on your borders and a lot of ships in any sea where other factions have ships. well in every seazone there was an enemy ship i had atleast as many as they had, in most of those zones i had 3 more then the enemy had, and in the chock zones i had atleast 10 ships. I had no problem to wipe out all enemy ship the turn after they attacked me.

And the only boarder i shared with another faction was the one with HRE and Denmark. Scotland shared a boarder with the rebels. Ireland and Rhodos are islands

And I had almost 2 stacks in Denmark and HRE had about a half stack and attacked anyway.

Maybe they don't like the way you gripe about it being unfair that you're being attacked. Maybe they're thinking 'what a wuss, let's kick his butt'. Maybe they like Swedish girls (bikini team and all that). Maybe they didn't like Hamlet because he was whiny too and intend to wipe out Denmark before Shakespeare can write the play.

You had more ships and they still attacked you? wierd. Your ships have to be in one stack. If they're separate they can be attacked individually.

Anyway, I usually find that if all that happens is the AI attacks your ship, I can make peace with them easily. Try the spy buildup in an enemy prov. The rebellion will probably be a strong one and the faction will usually be glad to stop warring in order to deal with the internal problem.

and shakespear´s hamlet was about the english king etc etc, but if he would have had the english royalties name in the play they would have executed shakespear. thats why the characters were from denmark, and if denmark would have been gone in his time he would just have wrote about some other country.

Certain AI factions will always fight for control of the seas and trade routes, so dont wait for them just attack wipe out their fleets first, prewferably when you have no land border with them so you can get an automatic peace treaty.

the auto peace treaty worked as good as it could before patch, but now after patch i only got auto peace once even if i havnt had any common boarder with my enemy, there havnt been any emissarys, princesses, priests, or anything in each other countrys.

And the pope excommunicate the player before he does it to the ai

ex. HRE attacks me in Denmark, next year it attacks me again in Denmark, next thing is that i got a warning from the pope saying: If you dont cease hostile with HRE youll get excom...

Anyway i got most of northern and northeast of europe under controll now. No other fatction can take over the sea cus i controll every seazone with atleast 2 ships.

with "horde alot" i think you mean i have many men in my boarder with HRE. I didnt have that only 1000-1500 while HRE had around 600. And that was the only boarder i had with other faction if you dont count the one i had with the rebels between Scotland and Northumbria. Rest of my territorys was Islands and sweden and norway,

It is supposed to be somewhat hard until you have mastered it. The factions always attack you at some point in the game. It's how the game is designed. Get over it and enjoy the fighting.

Its not hard, I masterd this game from the beginning in every difficulty, I win atleast 99% of all the fights against AI.

I just took this topic up becus: when i was the biggest all attacked me and i accepted that, i was the biggest all the other factions was "afraid". But now when i just was in scandinavia doing nothing and they attacked me anyway, I thout that was weird. And wanted some serious ansers, like you wrote: "Its how the game is designed". not other crap

And yes I do fight online becus the challenge is better there. And I would have fought there more then against the AI if it wouldnt crash all the time.

Good point about MTW being only a game, BUT I would expect the game to be somewhat believable. It sucks when your allies drop the treaties if somebody attacks you, and nobody ever sends in some troops to help you out.

u dont get it the ai isnt stupid its the deziners lazines not to tell the ai wat to do and when.

if ur big ppl will attack u if they think they can get away with it if ur small ppl will attack u to secure their borders and to generaly get rid of u.

the germans attacked the french,russians,britian etc. becos they wanted land. so does any faction that attacks u.

wats wrong exactly with the ai attacking if there hopelessly outnumbered try telling henry v to give up cos the french r stronger or robert the bruce cos his men r starving sick and outnumbered. or the brittish division at glazers pass??? or watever the zulu thingy was based on.

if no1 attacked u then it would be the worst game in the entire series.

If they would have attacked me becouse they wanted my land that would have make sence to me. But look at my posts again. All who attacked me expet HRE didnt have any conection to my boarders, they just attacked my ships. HRE attacked me cus he was allied with France, and HRE also had a common boarder with me. No one else had that.

As i said the ai attacked my ships even if they were heavy outnumberd on the sea.

The ai didnt even have atleast 1 ship in every seazone up to my lands or down to rhodos.

So they never attacked me cus they wanted my land. They would have had to walk thru former HRE to get to me.

Can any mod close this topic, I finished the danish campain now. I took all of europe. How? with about 20 spies + high quality units from sweden
