You can't do that. If the unwanted ally starts a war against your mutual ally you can pick who you want to stay allied with. Or if you do the same your unwanted ally may choose the one you attacked. Otherwise it is your burden to the rest of your days. In the campaign. But eventually ALL your allies will become your enemies. Total war :shrug:

Assassinating that particular faction out of existence is one way of breaking an alliance without openly declaring war...
