Might be simply a notepad++ error and nothing is wrong internally game engine wise.
It's worth reporting though.

EB2 has now been updated to version 2.35a R3.5, the download links are on our page in Total War Centre.

BTW, this error is not present in the latest version, out of curiosity, was this file opened before using notepad (or its equivalent on mac or linux)? These default editors tend to insert/change characters at random.
