1. I’ve noticed that when you’re playing with most clans, a couple of years after you start the game, your “heir” comes of age. But when you click on him, his “honor is great, and all his troops get a +2 bonus,” even though he hasn’t been in any battles yet! Is this a bug in the game, or is this simply the game’s way of saying that the troops gain an honor bonus simply because their fighting for the heir? If so, why is there no honor bonus when they’re fighting under the Daimyo himself?
2. I’ve read on several webpages that you can cheat your way into having an “indestructible army” by typing “.prototypearmy.” But I can’t get this to work. If it does work, does it work on the Strategy Map, or the Battle View, or both? Was it removed by one of the patches? Was it an internet prank?
3. Speaking of cheats, does anybody know any way of disabling victory? (I prefer just ruling an eventless, prosperous nation.)
4. When there’s a poor harvest, is that Japan-wide, or merely your provinces? In other words, are your enemies sharing the same fate regarding the harvest?
5. Is there any way of telling the range of your archers? There are some situations in which I SWEAR they should be able to hit something, and they won’t even bother trying. Other times I’d SWEAR they couldn’t possibly, but they do! How can I know if they’re going to be able to hit point B from point A without having to go through the trouble (and risk) of first positioning them at point A?
6. Suppose you’re playing with the Shimazu. One of your first moves is to wipe the Imagawa off Kyushu. If you do, it’ll be years before you come across them again. But at that point, the game’ll say you’re no longer at war with them, even though you haven’t made any alliances! Does anybody know how many years it takes before the warfare “wears off” and the two sparring nations are reset to neutrality?
7. I’m sick of hearing about how ridiculously imbalanced Mikata Ga Hara was. The one thing nobody seems to mention is, did Tokugawa win? Does anybody know? Neither the strategy guide nor the manual bother to mention if he did or not. You’re supposed to be re-creating his fabulous WIN, right?
8. In the throne room, if you click on that dude, he’ll come up with some sententious blather. But if you look closely at the geisha, she’s waving a little, like she’s supposed to do or say something. She doesn’t, right? There’s no way of getting her to talk, is there? I’ve tried clicking on everything!
9. What exactly are you doing when you ALT + Left Click on a unit (in the Battle View)? The manual ( p.3) says “Forced Move – Fixed Facing.” Well what does that mean? When I do it all, the troops seem to do a little jig, then move just fraction left or right from where they were originally standing. I don’t get it. So what is ALT + Left Click used for?
10. (I suspect this is a stupid question, but this board seems more or less flame-free so far so I’ll risk it…) Isn’t there an “everybody attack everybody” button? For example, if you make one group of your entire army, you have two options: 1) You can click on only ONE of the enemy units at a time. The problem with this is that once those enemies are dead, your army will pretty much stand around, even if there are other enemy units a stone’s throw away. Or, 2) you could group your army into one big group and click on the terrain in the middle of the enemy’s army, but the risk here is that if, by the time your troops reach that spot, the enemy army has moved elsewhere, your guys will just stand there stupidly, not doing anything. I've tried various combinations of “group formations” and orders, but there seems to be no “everybody-group-together-and-walk-this-way-attacking-anything-that-comes-in-range-or-attacks-you” button. Having to move the entire army ahead aways, then click on this unit to attack that unit, and this to attack that one is a big pain in the rear. Any advice?

I have got to start referring people to previous threads...
1. The heirs and such are historically based. In most cases, the game-set Honor etc. is a value based on how that real-life person did in history, a good example is Oda Nobunaga.

3.Nope. Why bother?
4.It's believed to be local, so a harvest can be different for each Daimyo.
5.Altitude increases range if you're higher up than your target; and vice-versa. Otherwise, your archers start shooting immedietly (if set on Fire At Will) when a target comes in range. So move them in increments.
6. Dunno.

8. No geisha talk. I tried it too when I tried playing the game without reading the manual.
9. What the books says it's for.
10. I sometimes wish there was a "mop up" button but it's better that there isn't. The basic rule to STW is matching your units to enemy units to gain maximum advantage; you wouldn't attack Yari Samurai with Cavalry Archers, would you? But an automatic "attack" function might come up with such mismatches. So it's better to just learn to read your unit flags at the bottom of the screen to see what they're doing so you can remedy the situation easily. Scrolling around from unit to unit on the battlefield for an update isn't a productive method of checking up on your army.

7. Tokugawa didn't exactly win Mikata-Ga-Hara, as the Takeda were so numerically superior that the Tokugawa forces were overwhelmed. However, Ieyasu fought a good fighting withdrawal, and upon reaching the castle of Hamamatsu, the Takeda ceased pursuit, fearing reinforcements. They tried to besiege the castle, but between raids from Tokugawa's forces and the threat of Uesugi Kenshin attacking the Takeda lands in Takeda Shingen's absence, the Takeda were forced to abandon the offensive and return home.

6. I presume what happens is that you cease being at war with an enemy if a period of time passes without direct conflict, or if you have no land border with that enemy. I must admit it's slightly puzzling and I don't think the manual refers to it directly.

2. This was a demo cheat, doesn't work in full version. Only ones I've gotten to work are:viagra,conan,much koku, oh and that see everything one...funny thing is I've never gotten the mefoundsomecu cheat to work-and that one was from the Honor days!
9. Wouldn't you like to be able to have your men arrive at their destination facing the enemy, rather that being oblique to them and receiving a flanking diadsadvantage?

1: Heirs
Heirs automatically get a bonus, just 'cuz they're the Daimyo's kid. Having the right parents can make you cool. Just like real life.
9: Alt+Left Click (or right click!)
Take unit A, facing twleve o'clock. Normally, you left click somewhere off at three o'clock, and the unit will spin, and march off towards three, and when they stop, they'll be facing towards three. If you ALT + left click, they will march off towards three, but when they get there, they'll turn and face back towards twelve o'clock. This is really useful if you've positioned your men on a hillside, and you need to move one units a few yards to the left. You still want them facing downhill, but they're too far over. ALT+Left click will shift the men, but they keep their facing. If they don't have to walk far, they won't even turn the unit as they walk - they'll all sort of shuffle order, and you won't have disorganized ranks.
Alt+Right click will have the unit stay in place, but rotate around to face where you clicked. This way, your archers can stay on the hilltop, but will turn to face the direction the enemy are approaching from.
10: Attack Everyone
Never needed one. Mass melee's seldom work, unless you totally outnumber the enemy.

6: It seems that in any case in which you no longer have a province in contact with and enemy it drops into Neutral status. No time factor in years is involved.

9) You don't + left click on a unit. You left click to select a unit, and then + left click on a spot to move the unit to that spot with the result as explained by BanzaiZAP.
10) The point of the battles is to get advantageous unit matchups. The 16 unit limit makes it managable. If the AI took over this function, it would greatly detract from the tactical play. And what a rich tactical environment it is to immerse yourself in.
