Autotax and Tax problems Query?

This is probably a redundant question:

I'm in year 1200 or so and I'm finding that to maximise taxation revenue i have to manuallygo through each and every province to adjust their tax levels as their loyalty fluctuates from year to year. For example, Spain under my control goes through cyclic rises and falls in loyalty.

Does the latest patch allow a speedier administration of the many provinces under your control? I'm getting a little tired of checking every single province every turn, especially when one sneak sag in loyalty arises due to me clicking through the events too quickly or if an insivible enemy agent is at work (do we see AI spies? we dont do we?).

I heard the current autotax option only causes rebellions.

I haven't heard that 'autotax' causes rebellions. I think it's designed to tax at a rate to keep loyalty at the 100 level - which isn't enough to prevent rebellions (need level 120+ for that).

I toggle autotax (and auto assign titles) on-and-off when I'm concentrating on some other aspect of the game, and review loyalty levels by viewing the Economy parchment.

But that's just my style of play. Others may do differently.

I prefer to keep my taxes on Normal when I have a sizable income and on High for only a short time.

New conquests are of course immediately set to very low for a few years to allow for easier adjustment to my rule of the land...

Thats my style and it seems to work quite well for me.

Im probably being a miser eking out the last % of tax..
My style is to tax at whatever rate is highest to keep loyalty above 130%.
If the very low setting cant reach it, I shift troops from my neigbouring province's garrison. (and build churches farming etc for longer term).

It would be easier if the economy management screen had a summary of all provinces. An autotax manager would then let you set the minimum level of loyalty which the autotax manager can try to reach with the highest level of tax. It would also warn you if it can't do so in any province's case.

It would be like the ancestors of MTW empire phase which are the old games like Empire from the Z80 and 8088 days and all the Koei range of games from the 1980s too...

What you describe would be kind of a hybrid...sort of a semi-auto-tax, where you're telling the machine/game to perform a task within parameters you set.

That would indeed be a nice feature, not only for economy, but also for the other auto-type tasks (titles, troops, etc). Perhaps the developers will consider that for Rome:TotalWar, the next game in the series.

Theres an auto tax feature on VI that has to be added as a command line it is designed to keep province loyalty at 200 without the micomanaging see the add command line thread in the EH and Switch help thread in the MH, Here is a quote from one of them

ok, if you have JUST mtw and NOT the patch, then auto-tax tries to keep loyalty at 100% or better. in other words, it puts the priority of loyalty ABOVE taxation.

with the mtw 1.1 PATCH, this is changed to 120%, which, as stated above, is the TRUE level of no loyalist rebellions. you can still get the other type of rebellions, religious and your general's loyalty, but you WONT get loyalist peasant rebellions as long as you're over 120% PROVINCE loyalty.

in Viking Invasion, the 1.1 PATCH is part of the expansion pack, so it works EXACTLY like mtw with the 1.1 patch.

You can change the auto tax to whatever loyalty level you choose. ECS, one of the programmers enlightened us on this in another thread.

For example if you want an auto tax to maintain loyalty of 200%, right click the mtw shortcut on your desktop, then properties and add the following switch:

-loyalty:200

If your MTW is installed to the default directory, your command line should look like this:

C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe -loyalty:200

You can change it to 150, 130 or whatever. Of course the game currently manages taxes on a loyalty basis and not on an income basis.

A feature that combines criteria you set would be VERY useful.

Actually I saw the thread about the command line -loyalty:200 switch but thought it only worked for VI...

But now that Lord of Storms mentioned the patch 1.1 allows autotax at minimum 120% i'll have to seriously consider downloading it. I'll also give the loyalty:200 switch a shot anyway with my plain vanilla v1.0 MTW as SeljukSinan suggested... maybe it does work with MTW v1.0..

Say... have all the modifications done in the v1.1 patch been listed anywhere? I couldnt find it on the official site. Would be useful to see it before downloading the file.

I'm not sure if they're listed around here somewhere, but trust me, it doesn't change the game dramatically, rather it is a welcome fix to some aspects, the most noticable being the era requirement for unit building, in 1.1 you can't build longbows and crossbowmen before 1205, for example. Other than that, the GA points are also displayed numerically and the heir to the throne will be displayed in red and other important tasks of your emissaries will be highlighted in red colour too, on the respective parchments. Besides, you need the v1.1 if you want to try the MP aspect, as nearly everbody is using that, it fixed some unit costs and other related stuff there, too.
That's all I can remmeber for now...

The -loyalty command only works on 1.1 onwards (the patched game and VI)
