Id have to say the Vgs and the trebs, these units can reduce everything to nothing if they work in unison.
Ofcourse the Pronoia Allaigon (or whatever theyre called) are extremly powerfull... i beated the crap out of a mongolian army with basiclly these nice cavs only http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif .
Cavalry archers for there versatility and cheap cost, best unit for your money (1.03) imo.

Hi first post here and i'd have to say Teutonic knights IMO I know there are much stronger units but the fact that you only get them from crusades gives them an elite status and they're always battle winners for me.
well if you want to, there's mods now out there that will let you build crusading units.

mmm....tough choices. I'd say Camels.....I like any Horse Archer, mostly Boyars....Feudal Foot Knights...Alan Mercs.
Anything fast or unusual or rarely used that actually works.
Gothic Foot Knights and Hospitaller Foot Knights...

Lately mamelukes,faris,byz cav,and szekley very usefule and versatile.
seeign that england is far away from constandople(sp), i think not, if tou are thinking of sea invasion, you need to build a lot of ships, and that's gonna take a lot of time. and there's nothing the byzatines got in late that can beat a combined army of longbowmen, late royal knight, and chvarilat foot knights. and maybe some serpentine.Quote:

i absolutely love heavy cavalry. Ever since one battle when i was outnumbered like 3 to 1. I had about 300 men (a lot of them heavy cavalry) against about 1000 byzantines. I placed myself between a valley, my infantry in it and my cavalry on the surrounding hills, far away. The enemy army charged straight down the center and my infantry proceeded to hold them off while my cavalry hurried to the hills.
The absolute coolest thing to watch is hundreds of heavily armored royal knights charging down a steep hill into a crowd of spear-less units. The initial impact instantly mows down like 80 troops. The rest of the infantry disappear into the giant crowd of cavalry. After the chaos settles, a THICK pool of corpses remain, and the remaining remnants scatter away, some units only 1 man left in them.
Loved cavalry ever since.
In every campaign a certai type of unit happens to save my a** in the first few battles, when I try to organise my economy and give less attention to my armies. There are a lot of good units, depending on what you use them for. In MTW my votes go to spanish jinettes, VG, JHI, Lancers and pavise Arbs.

Anything with Janissary in the name. JHI are just superb in melee. JI combine very good melee skills with archery - one of the best hybrids in the game. JA - well, probably the weakest of the 3 - still good archers, just not an exceptional unit like JHI and JI.
The build requirements are a big obstacle - but are they worth the pain or what?
Nothing has caused as much carnage for the English since Longbows until recently with the advent of Soccer Hooligans. Just put them in a foreign stadium armed with Millwall Bricks and they make Ghazi's look like nancy boys. Just watch out for Glassgow Kisses.Quote:

in campaign I go heavy into longbows Bribe the welsh and get them years ahead of time, enemy cav turn into pincushions very quickly. in multi I prefer the janni heavies for the way they carve horsies into hamburger in an instant http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
I mostly like Arbalesters for their usefullness in long battles. Though Longbowmen are amazing when you need to make short work of a particular unit.
I also like extremely tough units like Varangian Guards of which VG is on top.
Ofcourse I also like the backbone of my army like Byzantine Infantry, Feudal/Chivilric Sergeants, Billmen etc http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/smile.gif
I don't really have a favorite unit in particular, just many units which I like.
