You folks gave me a lot of help in pointing out features and where to get info, but there is still this one nagging question. I am sure I will be humbled by the simplicity of the answer, but I am willing to face the humiliation in order to end the frustration.

From the map, click on the units. Then click on the corresponding icon(s) from the information bar at the center bottom of the screen (not from the map!), drag and drop onto the castle.

Konnichiwa,
I know how to do it and it's quite simple to do, but I'm not sure whether I can explain it.
Move the army inside a province with a castle. In the next round, leftclick on the army symbol so that you can view the 16 units inside it. Drag and drop units out of the unitwindow onto the castle symbol. Castle have limits (simple castle can only have 4 units).
To get units out of the castle select the castle symbol and drag the unitsymbols out and drop them into the province or an army in the province.
Drag & Drop = left click and hold and move the cursor, once the cursor points where you want the thing, release the mousebutton.
Good luck.
