I don't believe there is a limit and having more do convert the province faster. Note that in the case of Catholic factions, bishops/cardinals and inquisitors/grand inquisitors cancel each other. What I don't know is if it is a blanket cancellation or a one-for-one effect, e.g., having 10 bishops and 5 inquisitors in a province is the same as having 5 bishops (the 5 inquisitors cancel out 5 of the 10 bishops). Maybe someone else knows that.
There is no limit. That´s why you sometimes see the bishop horde that the AI keeps moving around in the game. Sometimes you can also see this when an AI-faction is planning an invasion of an non-catholic province. The more preachers the faster the conversion.Quote:

If the target province has a religious building, that will counter the effect of your preachers.
One of my abandoned Turk campaigns, I spammed the Mediterranean all around with âlims. IIRC, Sicily and Malta were sent the preachers (both val. 0) at the same turn. After a while, one of them was 70-some percent Muslim while the other was stuck in 30s and had a church on it.

I don't believe there's a limit either. In my Turkish campaign, I converted most of the Pope's subjects to Islam, using a couple of Alims in each province. Then there was a Muslim revolt in the Papal States They defeated the Pope and forced him into exile; curiously, the message still stated that they had set up a puppet Pope. It seems odd to me that Muslim rebels would set up a Pope. What's even stranger is that when the Pope reappeared a few years later, the former Muslim rebels joined with him This game is decidedly wierd...
Maybe if I ever pick up that game again, I'll send Jihads to Rome and the Papal states. See, I'd sent one of my low-loyalty generals (a bribed rebel) with his army on what was pretty much a suicide mission to attack the Pope. However, he actually won, defeating the Pope's army and eliminating the Papacy He marched across Italy, looting and burning; Rome was razed to the ground. He then managed to hold out in the Papal States with his survivors until he could build a port and escape. What a crazy adventure. Rome is still mostly Muslim; I still chuckle at the thought of a Jihad going to liberate them from Catholic rule.
I've done that numerous times. I love throwing no less than 10 Imams into the Papal states at once. I did so with the Turks and got similar results.

I always start out w/ 1 alim (or whatever) in each province. I like to keep tabs on the whole world. Then I start cramming adjacent territories w/ alims, as well as territories of the strongest factions. Never thought of setting up a Jihad for the Papal States tho. Wow... I'll look into that
