Giskard has just made the mod available for all who care to take a stab at it. I recomend anyone who is working a Roman type mod try this mod first to get some ideas of what can be done. It is not a total conversion but it opens the door wide open for future addons and improvements and that is the Objective of this mod. The Addy is here:

Kudos Giscard great mod. I emplore every1 to download it and at least give it a try spearmen can throw spears now and the romans have gladiators and when a unit says its anti horse it means it i took 1x 120 man anti horse unit vs a 120 man horse unit they killed 113 and lost 1 man lol.

Thanks for the kudos and yes The Legions do kick Barbarian ars. I have been playing the hell out of it and still playing it. That sounds like the bastati, The barbarians call them the red devils, that would be the anti horse unit in the game. I did not make the Legions and Gladiators too powerful tho. they are quite slow. The gladiators are not disciplined and will maul any formation in front of them but they will panic if outnumbered i think. I will be adding updates to keep the fans happy.

way cool, been looking forward to this mod since you announced it.. im going to have M:TW installed a seccond time now, just for all the mods.. its turning into hell having to revert back to the original every time i want to use MP

I have two disk drives in my PC so what I do is I Copy the whole Total War folder to my second drive and that way when I am making a mod or just trying a new mod out I Have the original to revert to without re installing. If you have disk space that would be a good idea also I will try to upload a throwback Selfinstall file for this purpose. the file is compressed so it wont take too much space then when i get tired of a mod or just want to play online I click on the throwback MTW file and I get all the original files back. I hope Barocca could do it for this mod Like he did it for the camelot mod. It would make it allot easyer for the player.

Thanks, I guess I got confused with the file sections when i uploaded it. A note is attached to it so im sure when they sort it out they will put it in the apropriate place. Its a Test upload so not a problem

Just a few questions. I don't want to alter my original game in any way. Are you saying I can "copy" the TW folder to another drive and install the mod on that copy and then run it from that drive? I noticed this statement in your "read-me" file: The Self-Install file is called Patrician. Simply click on it and it will install The mod into your MTW directory.

If I create a copy of MTW on another drive which MTW will your file modify or will it give me a choice?

The patch will give you a choice but it is set to the default Game directory usualy in the C\Programs\TotalWar\MTW\ etc... I think it does let you search for a directory to install it to as well. To answer your other question. I only mod on the default directory of the Game. What I do is I copy the entire Total War folder to my D drive and when I am creating a mod or installing one and I goof or the Mod screws things up. I simply delete the Moded folder from C drive and and I copy the Original to From D to C. In short, I dont re-install the whole game it takes too much time. I simply copy the untouched folder and place it in C drive. If you only have one drive but you have room then you can just place a copy of your entire Total War folder to another location in your drive. I am just about done with a throwback file that will allow you to restore Total War Patrician moded game back to original however since the mod causes the pagans to build have have agents I think the pagans will remain with those folders I moved to do that. I will simply send a readme file with it to show you how to move those folders if you dont like the pagans agents and such.The Mod install also allows you to backup all overwriten files.[B]

Everytime I attempt to install the mod it gets part way done then says my "loc/eng/name" is different and aborts. Any ideas?

it would be good if you could make a "restorer" program that fixed up the game after any mod... that would prove very useful for a lot of people i think

[B]I just uploaded it to The respawn.uk site. Giskard will probably post it within a few days but I will keep you all updated. The Patch file will allow you to restore your game and even take out The Patrician campaign and Pagan buildings and agents folders I had installed for the mod. I am also working on an update patch for the Mod since it is still in development. That will be available sometime this week.[B]

work is keeping me very busy and tired - exhausted to tell the truth,
i have not yet tested them - that is on tomorrow nights agenda,

would you like me to wait for the "update"?

and either way could you send me the update files just in a vanilla folder structure, not in any type of "installer",
that will make them very very easy to add to the install and restore programs i have for you.

[B]Are you installing this mod over another mod ? Or a modified names file ? What the installer does is it checks the original game folder against the modified folders to be installed and then it proceeds. Also I have the patched version of the MTW game V1.1 You probably have 1.0. For some reason it sees your loc\Eng\names file as different than the original V1.1 version and aborts.

Important notice:
When you Install The Patrician Mod, Make sure to install it into the original Patched MTW game. If the game is modified it will probably not load it into your game. The Mod installer checks the folder it will be installing the mod into and compares it to the Original game folder of MTW Patched V1.1... Let me know if you are having problems with the mod. The patrician update will introduce a new unit to the Roman Republic, The Leve: light infantry jav chuckers nice unit icon. Altho they are classified as light infantry they are quite deadly short range at 120 Soldiers in a Unit Cohort. Also increased income in most provinces. I get tired of going broke even after taking over provinces. This will cause huge battles due to better capacity to raise troops. I fought a huge battle against the Gaul last night, Mountain fighting at Milan. After taking Sicily from the Samnites General Marcus Liccinius Crassus was given the Ok by the Senate to raise another legion and as a result a huge army of Roman Legions and Auxiliary Units targeted milan in an a Huge battle that took a long time. The Gaul fought like devils till my Bastati took out their General. And that turned the tide of the battle but they still kept coming over the mountains.

The sooner I know about any issues or problems you are having with the mod, the better. This mod is still under development and there is allot of things that can be added or inproved in it. Here are some things I have noticed while playing the mod:
The AI takes a long time to think through its moves around year or turn #120 Altho in the update ive just sent I dint notice it as much. Also the AI Pagan factions create a whole lot of agents sometimes flooding my province with emissaries its almost like Pagan revenge for not allowing agents in the orignal..LOL.. When I tried making most Pagan provinces more rebellious like instead of -1 changed to 4 The game crashed so I would not advice doing that too much.

There is a relationship between The patrician campaign and unitprod11 file so It may not work well with your original unitpro11 file you must use the one that came with the mod for the sake of unit formations and behaviour as well as the religion factor in the campaign.

Interesting Issues about this mod: The titles given to the Roman faction are the names of famous Roman generals and leaders like Gaius Julius Caesar famous for his exploits against the Gaul. Marcus Licinius Crassus Put down sparticus. Publius Cornelius Cipio well known for his battles against hanibal. Most factions are pagan thus I provided portraits for the pagans to replace the Mongol dogfaced ones if you like you can replace them or keep them.
The Pagan behaviour in the Patrician campaign sheet in startpos folder is Catholic Expansionist crusader making the pagans quite agressive as well as thoughtful about making aliances with you. The Gaul helped me out quite a bit since they have the larges army on the map. The Patricians are backstabers and will take you off the map as soon as they get a chance even tho they are suposedly roman. At first they support you and then they rade you LOL.
You can control the Patricians once you build up your forces tho, a political thing i guess..The Romans should try to take naples and sicily early in the game, also greece as the Patricians are quite agressive in taking those areas from you if you dont. In the update I have jacked up incomes in all provinces for better more realistic game economy for army buildup and such. Altho The Romans and Patricians have unique units they are not tweeked to be so powerful that they cant be beat. They can loose badly if not balanced or used correctly in the battle field. You can take out a 2000 or more strong barbarian army with just about 500 legions but you must use battlefield tactic to do that. Terrain and disposition of your general and the legions is everything. The battles will be longer. My favorite formation is Line of Battle Key#1 on keyboard douring battle with cav on the flanks and infantry in the middle with general in back. I use this formation allot. There are others like square and scorpion and about 3 defensive formations but i hardly use them. I will jot down a list of formations created for this mod so you can test them in battle. thats all i can think of now. Keep me updated as to interesting things you find in this mod thanks.

Patrician Formations:
1 Line of battle: My fave I use almost always flexible good for attack and sweep of battlefield.
2 Three Line attack: first artilery second missile and non missile inf 3rd line cav with general at center.
3 line deffense:
4 Infantry attack:
5 Roman Deffense
6 Scorpion Infantry center cav at flanks another good one.
7 Square deffense Good deffense when in a tight spot
8 Envelopment Infantry middle cav poised to sorround the flanks
9 Western European general purpose formation flexible
You can cut and paste this for refference.

For those of you who are currently enjoying the Patrician mod, I am currently trying to balance out the Patrician Campaign file in the Campmap\startpos folder. If anyone has modified it and had good results let me know and so we can add it to the Mod. Barocca will be posting the Mod Update soon but I will keep tinkering with the campaign and unitprod11 file to fine tune it.

Thanks allot Barocca. I'm sure that those who are interested in playing this mod will apreciate it. I have been playing it quite often and it seems to run fine its just that I am trying to balance out the Campaign file a bit. I will keep everyone here informed as to any addons or updates.
