Yes the master of the text adventure game is still around. His back catalogue can be downloaded for free. (YES I did say free)
Also he has a newish game out - $20 and is working on another...

Never did any Scott Adams stuff, but I did play some of the Infocom games: Zork, Deadline & The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy. Pretty fun stuff, though figuring out the correct way to phrase you thought was frustrating at times. Oh, and Hitchhikers' lied to you:
