Don't know whether this has been discussed before, but I don't understand why you can't have Warrior Monks in the Mongol Campaign (playing Hojo of course). Arguably, they were a more prominent feature of the thirteenth century than the sixteenth. It's very disappointing - any views?
Warrior Monks were especially important around the 1500's because of the feud between them and Nabunaga. Nabunaga saw them as decadent fakes, who did not follow the sacred teachings of Buddha but instead fought with weapons, had sex and drank to profusion. They also backed the corrupt but impudent Shogun, who sought to hinder Nabunaga in his bid to reconquer Japan and make it whole again. (I read this in the excellent book Taiko)
Of course the monks and their temples were around for centuries, so I suppose they should have been in the mongol campaign as well.. I'm figuring they left them out for unit balance reasons.

then download Barocca's Campaigns from the downloads section of the Org, and try JDD-SE.
make sure to read the read_me files,
in-game campaign and clan descriptions have valuable hints in them too.

But armed temples were at the most important during the 11th-12th Centuries when they held great power - not so much through military prowess as the political and religious (read superstitious) influence they held over the country.
Oh, and the Ikko-ikki of the 16th Century were not really 'warrior monks' as such but a fanatical social movement based on the peasantry with religious overtones - kinda proto-Marxists with a Mao-like cult transposed to Buddha.
