Hi kataphraktoi, and anyone else looking at the Eastern factions. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wink.gif
Sorry, I've been out of the scene these past few days. My computer went on strike (damn hypersensitive motherboard) and then I had a slug of long shifts at work. And they're not over yet, but I thought I'd pop my head up and let you know I'm still here.
I'll be back this way in a few days,
Until then,
A.
Are the Sarmantians included in the Eastern Factions?
As an Indo-iranian tribe dominating the Euroasian steppes from the Danube to the Wolga the should...
Anyway I will take them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
Already busy with the Parthians for Europa Barbarorum...
Just kind of wondering what a West Iranian cataphract did on the field, that's all.
~Wiz

Based on the well-known grafitti of a Parthian cataphract of the 2nd century AD, conical spangenhelm (to use the European term for a helmet constructed of four different pieces of metal riveted together), coat of combined mail and plates, and fully armoured charger.

hope it will help ya
Just about the best you can get is just buy some Osprey books and other books on the Parthian/Indo-Iranian armies, and use them.
They provide a lot more information than the internet, I am sorry to report. :\
~Wiz
yeah i even tried google came up with like 6 things and yahoo and every ancient sight i know they are hard i will stick with the romans. but pop in heere every once in a while too
some units i found my book these are scythian
scythian warhammer calvary- these men are light calvary and carry a hammer that is pointed they are deadly advesaries indeed.
slaves- these are people that scythians conquered they reletively useless but VERY cheap with small maitnence cost.
poor morale
weak attack
no defence
tire easily
weak charge
slave skirmishers- these are the same as other slaves except they throw small javelins
scythian horse archers- these men are armed with bows have great aim and are deadly advesaries.
good attack
weak armor
these units may not be acurate i do not know how good this book is i will go to the library and get more soon.
I really think this should be linked with Europa Barbarorum.... the historical part at least.
~Wiz
i dont really get what the europa barborum thing is i read some of the thread and still dont get it
It's an organisation of volunteers from the community which is giving an 'advice' of sorts to CA, having done research on the armies of the contemporary factions that will appear in RTW.
~Wiz
my book also says they carried lasos to get people with so mayby put that in
There were no separate types of units: archers, warhammerers, etc. Every Scythian warrior carried a complex of different arms (for different purposes).Quote:

your right but we cant have one guy in a unit with an ax and another guy in the same unt with a hammer. it would be cool though
nice pics all
Getting the Enemies of Rome:Parthians, and the Sarmatian Osprey books. Will scan and post all pics once I've got them. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
Thanks steppe merc, really appreicated. I have a couple of esprey books but none related to the RTW...
Since Europa Barbarum is alreayd well set and organised, perhaps this whole RTW thread should be a threshing mill for historical discussion/debate/ideas while Europa Barbarum serves as a "formal" mouthpiece for RTW fans where they formally present their research???
Or should it kept as co-aligned historical discussion thread thingy??

Kataphraktoi the heavily armoured Ghost.
Well certainly we could use Europa Barbarorum's help with the mod, but I think that they should at least officially stay seperate.
We should unify the two, Europa Barbarorum becoming the historical aid for the mod...
~Wiz
i am with wiz on that
Yeap, Agree with Wiz.
I think EB should take the lead in RTW MOD and its restoration to historical fidelity.
As I suggested, EB should be the formal mouthpiece while the HIST. TOPICS should be forums to throw around some ideas, information gathering and a forum for RTW historicity.
Whatever u guys want, just tell me what to co-ordinate, etc, etc, etc...
DO it NOWQuote:
