Read some of these guides
Describe an average battle - or the most recent. Describe his battle plans and yours and we'll be able to help you beat your dad. ~:)
Of course the help given won't be much good if Dad looks at peoples' suggestions - so I won't look at this thread again. Well, I might if LB starts to beat me regularly ~:). She has plenty of time to practice because we can't play again until my laptop comes back in September.
Do as Colovion said;
Perhaps you can tell us which troops he mostly uses as well;
... I suspected that her dad is one of the .org, ~:p good worke Duke ~;)
Cheers
OA
laugh, this is hilarious ! ~D
Duke, you should play fair with your girl: the ratio of money for troops should be proportionate with the ratio of your ages...otherwise it's not fair at all ~:thumb:
I vote this as the Number One Subject Title That Can Be Taken Out Of Context. :tomato:Quote:

Meanie meanie meanie. Please LB do'nt win too many or I'm in trouble
Well first off do you have anything you can blackmail him with (Be careful though you may get the secret blackmailer vice)
get with your mom and have her call him into the kitchen saying it is very important. at that time start making piecemeal of his troops. (beware you may get a family favorites vice)
If your mom wo'nt agree to this spend endless hours practicing until you can finally outwit him and send him fleeing off the battlefield. (warning this is an automatic secret pride vice wich if revealed will have penalties)
Or you can just wait until he is senile and take advantage of his weaknesses then(but you will more than likely get the procastinator vice)
And if all else fails Go into the stats files and make peasants uber strong there attack 10 defense 10 and a charge value of 20 and also make the price of all elite units 3 times the amount. Make sur you buy all peasants and see who laughs last. (you will be awarded a master of numbers vice but this is actually good)
Well enough of the jokes, is your dad treating you like a time commanders contestant (leaving you in the dark) or is he teaching you about flanking maneuvers and what units you should send after other units and wich units you should try to avoid with certain units. Well hopefully your dad will start giving you some good advice and good luck
Welcome Lisabeanie ~ ,
I will do my best to help you.
First thing though is to know what you are using and what your dad is using.
Second at the end of the battle when you see what won and lost list how many kills each unit got. Then compare that with how much you paid for that unit.
If you are paying lots of money then they should be getting lots of kills.
That is very basic advice.
Now for the real useful advice.
1) How do you like to fight? Make an army around that. [*] If you like to sit still then use lots of spearmen, archers and a few swordsmen/militia and a couple of cavalry.[*] If you like to attack then do the opposite... no archers, a couple of spearmen and lots of swordsmen, militia and cavalry.
2) If the problem is that all your units are running away... get braver units.[*] Go for valour upgrades.[*] Larger units that are not militia[*] Higher armour... units that take a bit to kill don't run fast... if a unit is losing lots of people quickly they get very frightened. On the other hand knights :knight: die slowly and are very brave against everything except spearmen.
3) Paper-Scissors-Stone
MTW is a bit like that.
Spearmen beat Cavalry
Cavalry beat Archers one unit to one.
Cavalrt beat Swords one man to one (ie 20 knights will beat 20 swordsmen).
Swords beat Spearmen
Archers beat militia.
Militia beat heavily armoured enemies... combine militia with spearmen to beat knights.
4) How powerful are your enemy?
When you look at the enemy unit see how many of the small triangle flags they have. Each one equals one valour... so if you see a sword unit with four triangle flags (pennants) then it has four valour.
5) Keep your general alive as long as possible.
6) Most of important have fun!
He normally starts with 5000 florins and I have 10000.He uses about 4 units of armoured spearmen, :knight: 4 units of welsh bandits :knight: and 4 units of Celtic warriors :knight:. He normally sets up his spearmen in a line the welsh bandits behind them and then on the flanks his Celtic warriors. He starts by pinning :charge: me with the spearmen and then he flanks me with the Celtic warriors. This is annoying because it happens every time to me and I don’t have a strategy. Thanks for all your solutions.

Like the use of smilies ~:)
Well swords and militia beat spears.
Also it sounds like he is using only twelve units. And no cavalry.
So you need to get 12 units of swordsmen and militia and another 4 units of cavalry.
First attack his spearmen with one unit each of swordsmen.
Attack his celtic warriors on one flank with 4 sword/militia and set them to hold formation.
On the other flank attack his celtic warriors with 8 sword/militia.
Once you have finished the celtic warriors march against the rear of the nearest enemy.
With your cavalry keep them far away from the battle until all dad's spearmen and celtic warriors are fighting then charge :charge: the welsh bandits. Hopefully they will run... once your swordsmen finish the celts they can help your cavalry.
May not work but it may give your dad a few more grey hairs :scared:
I think I have got it going but I will have to wait until October time to find out. I hope it works !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for all your help ~:joker: ~D ~:thumb: ~
Try using the following setup:
4 units of Mounted Nobles, one of whom should be your general
2 units of archers,
6 units of Saxon Huscarles,
4 units of Armoured Spearmen.
Use the money you have left over to improve the valour and armour rating of your Saxon huscarles.
When the battle begins, divide your cavalry into two groups and send them to the sides of your father's army. Make sure you keep them out of arrow range.
Send in your archers a bit ahead of your armoured spearmen and saxon huscarls. The archers won't do much damage, but they will draw the fire of the Welsh bandits.
Divide your huscarles and armoured spearmen into three groups and order one group to attack your father's armoured spearmen and order the other two groups to attack your father's two groups of celtic warriors. Make sure that you order all your huscarls and armoured spearmen to hold formation.
When the battle begins, you will take high casualties from the Welsh bandits. Don't panic, this will soon change.
When your armoured spearmen and saxon huscarles reach your father's units, he will not be able to outflank you because all his units will be busy. Your saxon huscarles will soon cut their way through your father's celtic warriors and armoured spearmen.
When the hand-to-hand fighting begins, order your mounted nobles to charge into the side of your father's army. They will soon rout the celtic warriors and Welsh bandits.
Sit back and watch your father's entire army run away
Huscarles in Hold Formation would take all the bite out of them! Surely Engage At Will will allow more of them to get into melee and provide better attack, so they kill faster?
When I use Saxon huscarles, I tend to get better results when I tell them to hold formation, in imitation of the English Shield Wall tactic. I think it's because getting them to form a shield wall makes them a lot less vunerable defensively.
Either way, in hand to hand combat they are much better than anything the Welsh can build. I'm currently playing as the Welsh and I can confirm how frightening it is when a mass of huscarles charge my armoured spearmen :jawdrop: :hide:
Start Battle
Ctrl-H, hold formation.
Only the guys who are out flanking the enemy and in contact without danger of being flanked do I take off hold.
One of the features of the morale system is that it is not just the number of casualties that you have taken, it is also the rate of casualties that you take within a period of time close to the current test. So if you take a lot of casualties rapidly you will have a large negative morale modifier. Stay on hold and you reduce the chance of a chain rout.
Thank you for all your help in the past three days I really think it will work. I got my sister to call him in the middle of our next battle. ~:joker: And your lay out tactics are very useful. I have enjoyed writing this. thread ~ ~:thumb: ~
I really can't add anything constructive here, all the major tips have been already pointed out by the more experienced. All i wanted to say is that this thread gave me a couple of very good laughs, especially the baseball bat part ~D Also i never thought a 10 year old girl played such games, i was pleasantly surprised, keep going ~
I will try to use all of your advice and hopefully beat him. Your help has been much appreciated. I now need to thank you all so here it is thanks to:

Mil sargeants are cheap an cavalry will definatly win the flanks for you. Pretty much it. With the money advantage i would say you have this in the bag.

I hope he doesn’t read my file where I put all your help! :book: I think I will have to remember all your help for we play in the same room! :computer:  ~D ~
feel free to peruse these forums for advice, i do
Chess as a game sucks because it doesn't have any handicap.
Pool, for example, is nice, you just tell your handicap, and you can have a nice and challenging game between two people of different skills.
Same for Go the board game, you just tell your rank, and the opponents rank determines the handicap.
Same should go for TW multiplayer, you play a game and see how much more money you need. For a game with 5000f for both, a 1000 bonus can make quite a big difference in the field. If the opponent is better, then the money does balance it nicely.
Just remember, the handicap is there to make you even, or near even, not to make you overpower him.
Lisa, the Welsh's strength lies in the missiles. As people have said, use cavalry to counter the Welsh Bandits. The Bandits are faster than most infantry so chasing them with foot wont help. I would say the main aim of his Bandits will be to take out your Huscarles. Since they already have good attack defence and morale you may want to increase armour to protect them better. Increase the cavalry's valour so they can do well against the Bandits (main idea is to tie them up so they can't enter the main fight. With extra valour the Cavalry may well rout them - added bonus, they can then flank your dad. The main battle line has been handled already. Note: make the general a strong cavalry unit with good morale (mounted nobles) but keep them out of melee untill you really need them (your dad may try and kill your general to get the army to rout faster).
Hope this helps! ~D
Hi lisa,
will you play rome total war when it comes out with your dad??

Welcome to the .Org Samwell ~
This is a little OT but LisaBeanie, you don't sound like much of a 10 year-old to me. You sound older.
Hi thanks for the welcome ~:)
Thanks for all your help I beat him ten minutes ago :laugh2:  ; both ~D our generals ran away early on but at the end I mostly destroyed him with Saxon Huscarles. I have really enjoyed reading all my replies.
@LegionnaireX: I really am 10 but thanks for the complement.
