Question on Grand Mosques

I was just wondering if you are only allowed one Grand Mosque at a time because I built one in Cons and then it seemed like I couldn't build one anywhere else. It'd be a shame if you were only allowed one cos then only one place could build those lovely Janissary Heavy Infantry :(

Also is there a difference in power between Arbalests and Short bows vs non armoured targets? One more question I read that all archers with short bows have the same attack power, just wondering if thats true?

Only one Grand Mosque per faction. I think this can be modded, but I haven't tried. You might also be able to get JHI in more than one province by building the buildings required, then destroying the Grand Mosque in that province, and starting one in another. It would take a long time though (and again, I have not tried this.)

Arbalesters are more accurate than bows if memory serves, although they fire more slowly. Arbs also have better range. Bow units will run out of ammo quickly, while arbs can wipe out unit after unit (given enough time.) Attack ratings are not the same as missile accuracy and kill efficiency. There is a missile stats file somewhere in the game, you might look at it to get a better idea--probably check the Dungeon to get more info on it.

Yes, only one grand mosque at a time, there was a bug that if you started production of multiple grand mosques at the same time you would get them all, but this bug was ironed out in one of the patches. So I reccomend you just find a place that makes only JHI...

Arbalesters are way, way better than your regular bowmen, first of all better range, better kill ration, and armour piercing....

Yes, all short bow units have the same attack power with the bow, although they are different in melee. The stats that are given for the archers is not how good they are with bows.

You can see the difference of longbow, shortbow, arbalest and crossbow in the projectile file in the Total war folder. I reccomend using the gnome editor to view it :jumping:

Question: If I build a grand mosque in one province to build military academy, then destroy it to build another military academy elsewhere, the first province will be missing the +3 morale bonus that comes from grand mosque?

Had this very frustrating problem of having one grand mosque then building up constantinople to a fortress to build another and cement as my main base (the byzantines had kindly left me years of tecnology there) but just to realise that you could only build one grand mosque ~:mad: or should it be ~:doh:

well, you can build more of them, you just can't have more than one at a time, unless you mod the game. And that should be pretty easy, because, IIRC, you just eliminate the "UNIQUE" feature - or change it to non-unique, can't remember. But it's as easy as that, and then you can have as many GM's as you want.

Also, sometimes, an intelligent way of doing things would be to build GM & MilAcad in Bulgaria, demolish GM, then rebuild it in Constantinople.
The reason for that is that JHI get +1 valour in Bulgaria, which, morale-wise, is almost as good as having the GM there. This way, your JHI will have +2 to morale, and the other units you build in Constantinople will get the +3 from the GM. Why build the GM in Constantinople ? You can build it wherever you want, but Constantinople is already a Citadel and pretty well developed...

The downside of doing things this way is that it will take you a loooong time to build up Bulgaria to a fortress, and then the GM + MilAcad. But I would definitely go for the +1 valour to JHI in Bulgaria (not that they really need it...)

Thanks for the confirmation of what I recalled. Unfortunately, by the time I have the upgrades to build JHI or Varangian guards, Gothic knights, etc, I no longer really need them...the game has been "over" for some time.

IIRC this does not work for VI. You would have to tear down and rebuilt in order to get multiple MAs in VI.
