Bribing other Roman cities-any reason not to?

Is there any reason not to do this? Apart from getting the Senate slightly pissed off, there seems to be no real disadvantages, and it's an easy way of stripping their powerbase.

I've tried to bribe several roman cities but they wouldn't accept any money amount? What gives, does a spy or embassador prevent the bribe from going through? Surely, their can't be any culture penalty.

Some men wo'nt even think of excpeting a bribe.

The only reason not to try and bribe a city is if you don't have the money or the troops near it to take and hold it.

If you can't hold the city and the people revolt it reverts to the orginal faction and you just gave them a load of new and generally good troops to turn on you with. So make sure you have an army that can hold it able to move in that turn.

I found that holding a bought city with 3000+ people is hard it is better to attack the city and just kill or enslave them. I can then wait one turn and move on. With a bought city I might be there 3-4 turns before I can leave with no risk to of revolt.

When you bribe another Roman city you get the full garrison and no extra culture penalty, so they're fairly easy to hold

question: does bribing another roman faction's army/town automatically put you at war with them? or is it a "soft-steal" with you still remainign "good" allies? :)
