Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
Impetuous units may charge without orders.
Has anyone ever witnessed this?
Campaign battles vs barbarians raised some doubts, so I've did some custom battle tests and while impetuous units sometimes show the "impetuous" morale tag they never charge by themselves.
So is this feature broken or is this WAD but works in some way I didn't think of? Can someone confirm this? ~
Re: Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
Yes, I had some barbarian mercs, and one unit charged without orders, this caused another two to go, its the only time I seen it, they were almost all wiped out.
Re: Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
if you have a impacint unit watching anouther unit do battle it will go and help
Re: Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
Yes I have seen this with some cavalry units that almost got themselves killed. :(
They seem to only do it when they are relatively close to the action.
Re: Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
but they never rush on to a enemy for no reasion so dont have to wory about that
Re: Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
Yes they will sometimes charge, I one time had my general's calvary unit going away from the enemy. Once they stopped, they turned around, and off they went.
Right into a phalanx.....
:(

*sigh*
I fondly remember my Highland Clansmen charging the enemy at the beginning of the battle well before i wanted them to but you ahve to look at them and think "awww, they really want to cut that guy's throat.... how sweet" ..... in RTW I haven't yet seen such things - nothign to really show that the units are anything but pixels
*sigh*
Re: Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
i play almost exclusively as one of the various barbarian factions. yet i recall very few occasions where units labeled impetuous actually charged without me ordering them to do so. and those were mostly cavalry.
Re: Are impetuous units impetuous at all?
As the Greeks, I have had situations fighting the Macedonians, where they have armies made up of light lancers. I make a circle of hoplites, so that the cavalry has nowhere to charge but into pikes, and I keep archers and my general in the center. Almost every time the enemy charges, my ARCHERS and my general both immediately charge into the nearest enemy to melee with them. I can understand the general, but why would archers charge? Perhaps a skirmish mode malfunction? All I know was that if a bunch of guys on horses charged at me, and all I had was a bow and a knife, I would feel much safer surrounded by spears.
