Withdraw problem ... please help?
Ok, I was losing a battle but had around 400 - 500 men left plus my general and faction leader. I used the Withdraw command and we easily escaped.
So, afterwards it said my faction leader died and all 400 - 500 men disappeared. What happened??
That was terrible!
Thanks for the help.

Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
Was it a siege? You can't withdraw from sieges .... yet (hoping for a fix in 1.2).
Also there might be a bug/feature where when you are attacked and have no movement points left they might just be disbanded after the battle..... the whole Withdraw thing is strange right now...
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
Its presumed to be a bug, or theres somthing we don't kow yet.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
They attacked me at a bridge. The move before they attacked I didn't have any movement points left. So, is it because of that I could not retreat so my men were wiped out?
I wish I would have known that to begin with, or I wouldn't have put myself in such a precarious situation.
Thanks for the help.

Yes. If oyu don't have any movement points left, you can't retreat. I know, it sucks.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
I've heard others say that ridiculous things, such as this, have occured. I can't believe they let this one slip by.
Withdrawing is withdrawing. You shouldn't lose armies if you withdraw unless the enemy is right on you the whole way.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
it's annoying, granted. lost some good generals doing that. but it should get those realism-guy all fidgety, as running away with an obviously tired army isn't such a great idea.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
I think that if there are no movement points left for the army then they should all fight to the death. It would deffinately make for those great "heroic last stands"
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
Agreed, anything is better than the mysterious disappearing armies! I really hope CA fixes this!

Count me as an all fidgety realism guy. Losing all of an army that won't fight and can't run is 100% historically accurate.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
I don't think movement points should count towards the prob of a successful withdrawal any more than the ability to move once you've on the battlefield is dependent on movement points. More to the point would be how exhausted/tired your guys were by the fighting etc on map (ie existing system) what do you think?

Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
If armies shouldn't be obliterated if they withdraw and have no movement points, then under what withdraw circumstances should an army be obliterated? If the answer is none then your trying to tell me that an army should always be able to run away no matter how many times it gets attacked as long as there are men left in that army? Doesn't make sense.
The way they are doing it is perfect.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
Hi Jimmy,
Withdraw across campaign map I agree with you, movement points.
Withdraw off battlefield, disagree. If not surrounded/blocked caught on field how/why do you catch up afterwards? The moves leading up to meeting are not real time but turned based.
What if the army not withdrawing has no movement points on arrival? Can it pursue.
On the other hand to withdraw fast might mean ditching armour etc so effectively lessening fighting force..
The system's ok but strikes me as a tad arbitrary/out of player's control and can give odd looking results. Perhaps cos I don't know enough...
Salut.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
They should at least warn you that withdrawing will make you lose your army. What if I have 8 stacks out and about? I can't remember how many movement points each of them has left after every turn!
I think the gameplay v. realism would be balanced best if your army, with depleted movement points, could withdraw once from battle and if pursued (attacked again that same turn) they must fight or surrender. This would also accomplish the "warning" thing above.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
Sometimes retreating will get your guys magically back onto the ship they came from. Be sure to check all boats nearby!

Yes, that makes sense tophat.
Apart from that, you shouldn't be losing armies just from withdrawing or drawing a battle or suffering a defeat. I once lost an army because the battle timer ran out. The enemy had exactly 2 soldiers left, a couple of archers, I had fifteen or sixteen strong units left.
Somehow these two archers managed to pursue my army of several hundred men and wipe them all out as they withdrew. Yeah, that's so realistic, I don't think.
Re: Withdraw problem ... please help?
another great bug lol, has it been added to the petition someone?
