Re: Allies Requested My Help
thats never happened to me..i hope they make it less rare in a patch...ive always wanted to help my allies, but i usually get there too late..
Re: Allies Requested My Help
I'm guessing you had an army in the "Red Zone" next to these rebel scum? You didn't have the choice to move to attack them with more troops etc?
Excellent work all the same, as of yet i've been unable to secure anything but a frosty trade agreement with most of my diplomatic efforts. Usually followed the next turn by them attacking me! ~

Re: Allies Requested My Help
Well, my experience is different, I would have diplomats running around and selling trade rights + map information + alliance (if appropriate) combos at the beginning of the game and I would end up with being allied with practically everyone except the natural enemies of Rome (the gauls, greeks and carthagians)... It has not happened yet that the AI ally would ask for my help though... Even when the Senate army chased the lone thracian heir (who for some weird reason decided to camp out in a field near rome...) deep into my territory (I killed him anyway).
Re: Allies Requested My Help
I had the same thing once as the Julii with bandits in my territory.
Most of my forces were away from home and some bandtis appeared right next to my Capital. I tried to kill them but I lost. (for some reason the bandits were three units of Hastati, two velites and one unit of cavalry, all against my town watch and general's bodyguard) To make matters worse the bulk of my forces were in Gaul, fighting away.
Anyways I sat in my Capital building up a force to take out the bandits. I had equalled them in the number of Hastatai, when the big SPQR Army left Rome came marching over and demanded that I help them fight the bandits in MY Territory!!
Needless to say I was surprised when this formal request for aid came through and before long I was riding into battle alongside the Senate army. Boy it felt good. ~D
Re: Allies Requested My Help
Is there a way we can ask for help? I think there should be. think of the new stratigies!
Re: Allies Requested My Help
Yes, you can "Demand" that they "Attack Faction", then specify which faction to attack. You'll more often than not get turned down until you start paying them for the help. However, I've been able to get all of the factions north of Syria to cooperate with me, given enough money.
If you've got a Military Access treaty with a faction and ask for help, it will cost less.
Must admit, I've never had a faction ask for my help, though... that would be very, very cool.
Re: Allies Requested My Help
You can't request an ally aid you as such... but allies can and will aid you sometimes. I guess you can simply assume you automatically request aid when you have a nearby allied army. Before I've attacked a city and a nearby ally has sent troops to assist. Also happened before with an allied fleet assistanting me.
But my current game as Parthia has taken diplomacy in total war games to a new level! I have a hugely rich empire in the east, with only one real land border, and I'm currently fighting a war CIA style against the romans. I'm technically not at war with anyone, but I'm bribing their armies, and giving the greeks huge sums of cash to fight the romans. Also trying to pay the Romans to attack Thrace... simply so I can fund Thrace to fight the Romans. I have bands of assassins and spies roaming roman lands terrorising the enemy. It's amazing what a level 10 assassin can do! I've pretty much destroyed the Brutii military without ever sending an army out.

Did something like it as the Selucide in my previous campaign and now as the Brutii I financed the chartagian and gaul war efford against my dear allies the Scripii and Juli...It is a wonder what a few 100k can do to a civ which has been counted out...

~ hehehe! Now that is devious.
Re: Allies Requested My Help
As far as I can tell, these "requests for battle assistance" only happen as a matter of chance - if they attack somebody and you happen to be an ally in the target's red zone, you get asked. Probably using the same general rules that would've sucked one of your stacks into one of your fights, if it had been nearby. But I doubt the ally actually "seeks out assistance".
