Claim to Fame

I was going to post this in the John Peel RIP thread, but it seemed a bit crass....so new thread here we go...

So what is ur claim to fame?

Mine has to be the night I spent with Joe Strummer and the Clash (mainly Strummer) in the Liverpool Adelphi in 1977.

My girlfriend at the time, had a sister at college in London who happened to be friends with Mick Siminons * sister (do try and keep up :dizzy2: ) and we got some tickets to watch the band at Erics in Liverpool......

After the gig (which was mega) we got invited backstage for a couple of beers and recreational drugs :balloon2:, then it was off to another club ...I think it was called the swinging apple for more beer and recreational drugs :balloon2: , a few hazy hours later Mick ( we were on 1st name terms by now ~:cool: ) says 'all back to ours' as is often the case when beers etc is swilling around the system....

Well 'ours' happened to be the Adelphi and what a nite, think we got to bed as the sun was rising, and mick being the perfect gentleman offered Julie and I his (single) bed for the remains of the night...

So thats my claim to fame, I got drunk and stoned with Joe Strummer and the Clash, and slept in Joe Strummers bed... ~:cheers:

I had a small speaking role in Ferris Bueler's Day Off. I still can't believe how geeky and bad I looked at 17.

I also interviewed a lot of rock musicians for Interview magazine and Spin, but I don't think that counts, since nobody gives a flying squirrel about who conducted the interview or wrote the article. (In fact, I'm convinced that the only people who read the bylines are fellow journalists and people who want your job.)

as for me...except for getting my name in a paper a couple of times i can´t claim to roll with the celebs or anything ~:cool:

got my picture in the paper when i was like 6 on my grandads shoulders at the swimming pool re-opening (was a local paper)

me and my stylish crew have seen it all, and photographed most of it.

I wrote in my local newspaper for a while, and even made the front page of an other. (long time ago in a small town but it's something)

Makkyo, uh, I was officially billed as "Guy With Coke Can." Now that's the star treatment, baby. Um, I was the guy soliciting money for Ferris. His sister runs into me, gets angry, and then kicks my can. I yell after her.

And that's it. Not a whole lot to get excited about. There are only two cool things that came out of it:

(1) I was called on the wrong day for costuming, so I was in when the main actors were being dressed. Matthew Broderick mistook me for the guy playing the other lead and walked over, saying, "Hi, I'm Matthew, I play Ferris." To which I said, "Hi, I'm Brendan, I play Guy With Coke Can." He frowned, turned, and marched away. I had a good laugh. What, didn't he recognize the inherent power and glory of Guy With Coke Can?

(2) The director started letting me make up my own lines after about twenty takes. (Jennifer Grey couldn't hit her mark, so we did take ... and take ... and take ... and take ...) Some of my made-up dialogue actually made it into the film, which was nice.

And that's it. I have no more Ferris trivia. I did one day's work and got one day's pay.

I've been writing in our regional newspapers for eight years now. I once posted a fictitious interview with our provincial premiere. Oh boy did it hit the fan. (Mind you, when you write that the premiere spends Christmas morning watching Triumph Of The Will with his family, some people get upset. ~:cheers: )

Another regional newspaper printed a half page article about me, calling me a terrorist and all sorts of dirty nasty things. Obviously I pushed a button that people didn't want pushed.

I've had a few mentions on CBC radio (they called me "salty" and a "loose cannon") and in the Montreal Gazette.

I love every minute of it.

Once played guitar on a punk record ,that got to number´14 in the British independent charts.
And covered a boxing match for a local news paper ,which was the coolest.

I´m going to be one of the most important psychologists of this century. That´s fame enough for me.

I should have been clearer. The editorial calling me an "English terrorist" was printed by a French separatist paper in response to my "interview" with our premiere. He was seen as a messiah for the separatists and his name was not to be mocked.

So I mocked it.

Those people have no sense of humour. We got complaint letters and phone calls. It was a riot. The editorial in the French paper was titled "Au calme les citoyens!" (Citizens be calm!). It was telling them not to riot and have me killed for mocking their messiah. Though of course the insinuation was that they should riot and have me killed.

What pure joy. I love making those people howl. I'm sure if Quebec ever does separate, I'll be one of the first against the wall.

... oh, and I'm not sure you're allowed to pair "important" and "psychologist" in a sentence. I think it violates some grammatical rule somewhere.

I once had to roll a twenty to hit a dragon and save my group on the Isle of Dread. Achieved that and everything else pales into insignificance. My friends say I look like Rimmer and have the same personality... not sure what they are on about, but I do have some very interesting photos of tube socks.

I once saw two different girls naked during the course of one evening... :help:

kind of sad really.

Band was called The Impalers .It was for Crass records .Oh and it was an album called Bullshit detector 3 ,so it's not quite as impressive as all that ~:)
I've only ever found one mention of it on the net.
And ,btw we're still waiting to get paid.

My claim to fame? Hmmm . . .

I was kicked off of Law Review in Law School for writing an article that suggested that Minnesota's Freedom of Conscience clause was an invitation to anarchism . . . in Minnesota, no less.

I wrote political commentary for the college newspaper of a certain well-known midwestern Catholic University. After a certain well known republican president won the election, I burned all my clips in frustration.

I wrote a short story that was published in the Mt. Sterling Democrat Message (that's the actual name of an Illinois newspaper). I was like, four. Okay, maybe I was twelve. Fourteen. Young, very young.

I wrote a short story called A Special Kind of Research which was almost published in a nationwide magazine called Night Cry (I was but a lad and the magazine has long since disappeared). All I got out of it was a letter from the editor which said he really liked the story but since the magazine was folding he was sending it back to me. Then, about three months later, he called me and said he was now the story editor for a cable (television) horror anothology series (kind of like the Twilight Zone) and wanted to know if he could use the story on the show. Then he call back four months later and said the show had been canned and I could have the story back again. Then I burned the story in frustration.

Nothing remarkable. No fame here. However, I think Lemur's gonna take this thread hands down for actually seeing real disappointment on the face of Matthew Broderick. How funny!

At my Rugby club dinner and dance a few years ago i had my colours tie presented to me by Kirsty Gallagher (Sky ones Kirsteys home videos) She is Luvverly!!!! Her (Ex now) Boyfriend Paul Sampson was there who playes rugby for London Wasps and Has played Rugby 7's For England.
