AI does blockade my ports sometimes, but very unlikely indeed. Probably 1-2 times in the entire campaign. The blockading ships also sail away shortly after.
I always start to build fleet in the blockaded port, so I am not sure whether the AI sail away because of that.
Bribery out of control, eh? I'll give you 3500 dinarii to forget about this whole thing. ~;)

Having your own diplomat in the settlement seems to provide pretty good protection. I'm yet to lose a settlement with a diplomat to bribery.
If I am leaving a town with a small garrison that can be easily bribed then I make sure it is so small it is easy to take back and the other faction has just thrown his money away. I had a Greek ambassador bribe the same town 7 times in row. I would retake my town each time the next turn. I made a game out of it and quit leaving any troops in the town then I didn't even have to fight to get it back. I guess either they ran out of money or out of patience.
in my epxerience, having a spy in the town stops the bribery. but then again, i might be wrong on that one :)

Already you can bribe your way to victory and very cheaply too, frankly I would rather the ai cheat a bit here (cost of bribery rises depending on your number of settlements--basically people hate you the more the more successful you are. ) At least when you get to 30 provinces the ai would have a little chance(not much I admit).
I actually long for the ai to bribe or ambush me, that indicates that I have been sloppy in my play, not enough spies or diplomats and sending too many captains around by themselves(I've never had the ai bribe one of my generals)
I've never had a settlement or army with a spy bribed. I have lost family, diplomats and units without accompying spies to enemy diplomats.Quote:

I've had one army bribed in my Spartan Campagin. Now in real life they NEVER would have joined up, no matter the cash! Because Bruti bribbed them, and Bruti is our biggest enemy aside of the Scipii who were our biggest enemy, but have stepped down on their attacks. The army just took the city, 900+ strong, and then they join the enemy side. Since then I've sceen those units dispersed throughout the Bruti armies that I've fended off. Breaks my heart having to kill my own precious men.
And I wont bribe any Romans, their the filth of the World in my Campaign, I slaughter them by the thousands and they still are sent over & over to try & take my lands. Belive me, I may be loseing the war yet, but I'm making them pay direly for every inch of land that they steal from me.
How badly has anyone been bribed in the field at one time? The most the AI has ever taken from me is a 2 unit stack. I don't know if they never have the money, or if they have a bribery maximum price.
The cost to bribe should be proportional to a faction's current treasury. An army is likely to ask for more cash if they know the faction bribing them could easily afford to pay them. At least this way bribing would be still be available as an option to the financially weaker factions.
I now use diplomats as a defensive and offensive unit. LOL. I post them on the frontier, along avenues of approach. If a foreign dip skips along, heading toward a city or army, I simply "buy" them. It's amazing just how loyal my troops are. Then again, no one is ever able to offer them money. Aside from the obvious danger of their bribing your cities/armies, foreign dips just hanging around your provinces give your opponents a "free look". I don't like that. State your business to my DIPLOMAT, then leave. Ain't no need for you to be talkin' to my cities. No, Sir.
Jambo, just because the family has a million denarii in the treasury doesn't mean the individual trooper is getting more than a few denarii a month. ~:)
This is what Assassins are for. I have a long, proud tradition of assassins on hand at any one time to get rid of any diplomat who stays in my territory for too long, friend or foe. Kill them before they get a chance to bribe anyone. Simple, yet elegant solution. ~D
