I don't know if this fits this section but...

For clean purposes I'd like to be able to get at the saved games.

Hold on now! Here is why:

I've used older style units for battle when like going from early to middle
campaign (1205) I want the chivalrics to replace them but they have
good armor and weapons that I don't want to turn them merc for my
enemies and will-be's to hire.

The problem: after combat there's partials that I can merge by removing
some and dropping them back in -- but when the unit size is 60 and you
have 2 of the same with 33 they don't merge, it happens more than once.

This also happens when a crusade moves through only to all units.

So I'd like to write a tool for either merging partials and leaving the
remainder, 2 33's would make a full 60 + 6 as 2 units. Alternatively
it could split units to allow more chances for efficient merging in the
game itself as I know of no way to split a unit in the game.

I can code these kinds of things if I know enough about the file layout.

Yes, people can cheat with this but IMHO that's not a big problem in
single player mode. If SP files differ from online play files then would
that be okay? I know that online should stay tight.
