We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
Alright, as many of us wanted with Medieval Total War, we didnt get it, now with Rome Total War, we dont want it, we need it. We need a multiplayer that is more than just crappy battles, that's sorry a--, we need one that is as extensive & indepth as single-player.
We need something on the lines of this, or exactly this plus more:
A massive online multiplayer game, have say one main room, mabye two, mabye three.
It is like the Campaign map, exactly, but with more, its much more larger, say 1,000 times the size, or 10,000 times the size of the Campaign map.
However, the territories are not the size they are in the single player version, they are to be split up into states, or counties per each one, say, 100 counties for Athens, with small towns in each one, just like starting with a tiney town in the single player game. But, each of these small sections on our screen, will be the size of the usual sectoins, because the map will be much much larger.
Athens itself would be a massive city, which only one person will control. When you start the game, you should get to choose where you want to have your Empire. You will start with a few counties out of the hundreds of thousands.
The trade is the same, the bribing is the same, the military making, town upgrading, all the same. Taking cities, countries, all the same. Making fleets, the same.
Have servers for say, small, one for normal, one for large, and one for huge size units. Those people who have the right amount for their PC spec's, sign up for those.
Your thinking, what if your a new player, and you want to start it online? Or what if you get conquered? Simple, well all sign up for like a month prier to the launch of the campaign. Were assigned the faction we want in the general area that is randomly selected that is related to the faction of your chooseing. Once the sign up period is over, we all begin on the same day. And go from there.
What if you want to join a clan? Or make one? Simple, make an interactive thing up top, where you can search clans, and to join one, you must have their approval & password to join into the team. Doing so, your faction color will go into theirs, but they do not get any access to your funds, nor military or buildings, you control all of that yourself, but the game will add up the total cash, total buildings, total military units, and total ships in the fleet.
You can search in the servers massive database, all the players, ones on clans, ones solo. Can review their military sizes, fleets, countries, cities, towns, etc.
If your attacked while not online, your AI will defend. But to do this, we'll have the AI skills on maximum, to ensure no ganging up on someones Empire while their offline.
Everyone can make alliances, make war, make peace, come to others aid, etc.
The game wont last just a day, it will be there infinetly. You log-on, load up, and play. When your done, simply log-out, and its all saved online, for when you log-on once more. It will last forever, but be fun. Its not for immediate conquest, that would take millions of soliders, but its for just an incalculable amount of fun!
This is how the multiplayer should be, if someone would please make MOD RTW to be like this or more, please do so, or if we could inspire CA to do this, with a petition or mass E-Mails of this, with more features than you can list here, please lets do this! All that agree, say Aye! Well need good modders, well need horribly fast servers, extensive databases, CA can do this, within a month they could have this all set up. Let us inspire them to do this or something very similar! For God-Sakes, the multiplayer is just plain sad!
I say, Aye!!! Make it!!! Have like a questions board to gain information & request of what we all want on it, and make it CA! Then release it in a huge patch, and then we can sign up for the starting server games, and begin the largest online multiplayer Campagin ever! I guarantee that you'll get millions more buys of your game's giving you inmeasureable amounts of cash in the end of people wanting to play RTW online! Do this for us guys, lets inspire them to do so!!!
Any other suggestions?

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
It can be done guys! I've sceen it in other massive online Campagin games, but this one would smoke all of them! Those all would suck compared to this one if CA will make it! They already have over 75% of the work done, mabye more, they wont have to make that much, only, expand, what they already have!

WHERE IS THE REPLIES! Read this you morons!!! You know you want it!

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
we're tired from talking about this for the past few months
or years

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
I proclaim this to be beyond the scope of a Total War game. It seems asking for an MP campaign that is similar to the current SP campaign is too much. And if so, then this proposal is beyond all reason.

What can I say, Siris? Many hopes will wither in this bitter spring. ~

hehehe
Of course we want it...wanted it for MTW too
I expect this proposal will meet with the same fate as the MTW one; too bad, because for an on-line game it has the looks of a winner

Prehaps someone would mod it themselves, and make the profit from having their own servers, if properly motivated.

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
CA had thought of this:
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/previews/previews_story.php(que)id=99798
And to let the other computer game companies survive (*cough* Blizzard *cough*)
they dropped the idea...
And i COMPLETELY agree with the original poster:
The RPG style is THE ONLY way to go period.

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
We dont need a MMORPG version of RTW. the framework for the current single player game would suit me just fine. everyone would just take their turn in sequence. this is hardly a stretch of the engine. why do they hate coop game so much?

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
i agree with Obex. dont change much just implement a lan/playbyip mode for the campaign map. all players making their turn after each other works good enough. and worked already good enough for similiar games (stratmap wise).
the time needed to finish an campaign is imo no real showstopper. anyone who played master of orion 2 or even more hearts of iron in mp will now that a good game can take a month or more to complete - at it deserves this high quality gaming time!
conclusion: i want a mp campaign for RTW! ~:)

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
Agree with Obex too. Who really would want to play campaign with 5+ players? That would take ages. I myself just want to play it coop with 2 or possibly 3 others

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
I would play with 200 players if it ment REAL stratgy, REAL people who REALLY care if there men die in a fruitless battle. INTELEGENT people who might acculy make GOOD dicions on the campign map and not just on the battle map. I'll play ~D

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
Yes, that is the idea, not some Campaign that would end in a month, no way. Say every five minutes, the turns would end, no year limit.
Its all saved online, the idea is not world conquest, but foring a powerful empire, and becomeing well known power, making allies, decieving others, diplomacy, trade, battle, etc etc! The game itself, no end date, who knows when it'll end, it would be like the world is, just fight until no one is left to fight! :charge:

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
Well not 5 minuit turns. More like 5 day turns...
-
Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
No, for some people would be done in five minutes. Give it more like, every 10 minutes, a turn ends. Give them more time, or say, 15-20 minutes.
5-day turns, the game would never progress.

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
I ment 5 days for every one to enter their turns...

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
The nearest thing to a RTW style multi player campaign ive seen is Pax Romana. The campaing map covers the same regions but has alot more provences and many more factions. The emphasis is on the diplomatic side of things and battles take a somwhat abstract form,a bit like naval battles in RTW but not quite so abstract. Also, only the seven roman factions are playable which means only seven peeps for multiplayer.
Pax Romana was released in a bit of a mess which is a shame in general for this genre.Hopefully the total war series will continue to grow and make develpopers and publishers alike take note and invest in strat games.

Re: We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
Well if they would get off their butts and make it this, they'd only gain a few hundred million more. But what is a few hundred million dollars to their company? :wall:
-
Re : We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
They don't do such a game cause nobody would play it. As simple as that.

Re: Re : We Need This Version of Multiplayer -- Everyone's Dreams of What It Should Be
Siris, i also envision a MMORPG strat/tact game. the problems with this game is limited size of ones artmies. it will RPG oriented with a given PC choosing a class that discerns the way he can acquire troops, earn vassals, and interact with the local populace. there will be "specialist" PC's but the focus is on military oriented PC's who will be sent on missions at first. generals who survive and acheive will be given a part of their home empire as a base and will be encourged to go out and wage war against the enemy. the capitols will be AI controled(but player influenced) and will regularly send out waves to fend off its enemies reguardless of PC actions. communication will be"real-time", linear, and view will be less raisable than it is in RTW and always anchored to general or lieutennants.
yes i envsion this game and hopefullly in 2 years i wont get stuck at stennis. hopefullly i will go work for a developer, climb the ladder, and then pitch this to them after i have gained their trust. and then i may get fired cause Menedil may be right
