Because someone
A) Stabs him
B) Pokes him...?
There are times when it does kill your general, and times when it doesn't kill your general. Seems like there was a thread around here a couple of weeks ago about exactly this... will go see if I can find it.

No my general didnd die on the field. He just died.

Maybe they commit suicide because of the dishonour they recieve from retreating?
