STW mod Clan Wars Competition
When current work on the STW ME/MI mod for MTW/VI is finished, what do you think about having a 4v4, Clan vs. Clan Competition?
I am asking to see if there would be enough interest to consider working this up.
If you “think” that this is something your Clan “might” like to be involved in, please post here.
No commitments, just trying to see if it is worth while thinking more about :book:
Thanks in advance!

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
I personally would enjoy a CWC, based on a mod, something not attempted so far. I'm pretty confident that other VDM members would agree, altho the 4v4 format might be hard to follow, unless the VI lobby gets even more people back.

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
I pretty sure at least four mizus would be interested.

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
I think some Kenchi's would be interested

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Well that’s good enough reason to get started ~;)
Thanks guys!
I Will be putting together a special version of the CWC called "Samurai Clan Wars" (as I believe this will be the Classic of all Classic Total War mods, and deserves it’s own space).
The contest it’s self will be a map position driven 4v4 competition.
Will post a link to the work here, as soon as I have something to show.
Any other Clans up for some Shogun style fun with this great MTW/VI mod?

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Have been bumping around the web trying to find a topographical map of Japan without labels plastered all over it. Got six so far, but none suitable enough for a background for the Samurai Clan Wars Contest Map.
If you know of anywhere where I might find a relatively clean relief map of Japan, I would appreciate it if you would post a link.
Thanks :dizzy2:

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Tomi,
Elmark has made a map of Japan for his Shogun Multiplayer Campaign. I don't know if he would want it used for other purposes or if it's the type of map you had in mind, but you could talk to him about it.

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Elm’s done a nice piece of work there. Made me smile to see the old map names :karate:
But I really need a map that shows the mountain ranges. They provide the natural barriers that support the concept of lowland Clan territories that will employed in the map portion of the contest.
I did finally find a really nice one at of all places, http://www.divejapan.com/Map_Japan.htm, and will be working on it today (got the day off).

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
I think ArmaEtLorica would be interested in an STW clan war comp. Of course none of us have played it online so I expect some handicapping points. ~;)

I'm sure the Prophets would be able to put together a team.

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
I'll see if I can get a PFJ team together (we hate the romans so much, we're not even playing RTW at the moment!)

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Thanks Your Highness ~:)
We now have a map page.
http://www.clanwarscomp.org/samurai/map.html
Next will be the demo of how the map works to assign matches, and what the options are.
There is a very good chance the above work will be finished about the same time the revised mod ready.

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
I would be very up for it hehe would be great to have original cwc still running also tho keep the un interested interested if you see what i mean ^^ What is going on with the CWC i mean future whys is another question. If a mod was to come out this week would it be moved to RTW or stick with VI for the next CWC?
Also any information able to be given on CWB affairs?

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Thanks guys ~:)
Clips, let me say this the long way round.
A basic principal of the CWC is to always require the latest Total War game, and the latest revision of that game. If Rome would have been playable for competition, we would be enjoying the Legions of Autumn tourney right now, even with the Medieval Grand Championship still in progress.
What will happen next?
If the patch for Rome does not materialize, or we do not receive a promised release time frame before the end of the MTW Grand Champ games, the CWC will offer a Knights Of Spring 2005 MTW/VI Contest. If RTW does show up and is insufficiently corrected for competition, the CWC will drop the game, and continue to offer Medieval contests as long as folks want to play that game.
On the other hand, the Samurai Clan Wars competition is a separate entity. No matter what happens to the rest of Total War or the CWC, Samurai Clan Wars will be there for the Samurai in all of us :karate:

I think some Shinkage members can also be interrested for this. :charge:

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Gotcha Tomi mate, as for the mod idea, brilliant i hope it will get some of them damn die hard Shoggy fans away from that game into VI or even Rome ~D
Btw i here there were very small problems with the mod for example distance shooting units, and new bridges etc were created, is the final mod actually finished yet with all them minor faults sorted guys? when this is done and all the faction colours sorted i will downlaod it, any info guys?
-
Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Just as a reassurance, the work on this is ongoing. The battle map pack is near completion, and the flow chart for the operation of the map portion of the competition has been drawn up, and will soon be presented to the CWC Administrative Council for review.
On agreement, or after revision to workability, a small rule set and a demo of how the map works will be posted.
Until then, here is the basic idea.
SAMURAI CLAN WARS
Contest Scenario
Each in their bid to secure military control of the country for themselves, the strongest factions raise armys and proceed to attempt to subdue their neighbors.
Avoiding the imperial residence at Osaka, and the mountain ranges of the main island, their armys move swiftly along the coastlines seeking to eliminate any resistance to their individual claims to the Shogunate.
Samurai Clan Wars Home Page (no links from it are active yet).

All the shooting units in Samurai Wars have the same range of 5000 (5.5 tiles = 100 meters) which is the same as it was in original STW v1.12. If you position a unit on higher ground, its range is extended. That's a fixed game mechanic that cannot be modded.
No new models or bridges are being issued in the maps at this time because everyone would need the model pack for them to work, and the model pack causes an out of sync in regular MTW/VI. So the maps will have standard MTW models. For instance, you will get a windmill in place of the temple on Nagashima. There are very few models on the STW maps that will be initially released. The biggest problem is the red zone being 3 tiles wide instead of 2 tiles. I'm looking to see if I can reduce the size of the red zone, but it may not be possible. The STWmod mappack will have a few of the larger maps from STW/MI such as horselands included. All the maps have been playtested so they don't cause CTD.
The Samurai Wars stat is being playtested now, and it's playing very well. The units stats are the STW v1.12 stats with some slight modification, and the kensai, ninja, hatamoto and nag cav fitted in.

Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Reporting progress.
Tonight I finished the 9th of a 15 web page Contest Map Demo slide show. I hope to be finished with it this next weekend. If so, that could possibly mean a Competition start in the first week of January.
The Contest its self is not all that complicated, but the way it works does have to be understood so the right choices can be made at the right times. The Demo will hopefully take care of that, at least basically.
Whishing you All a Merry Christmas :santa:
Hope you all had swords on your lists, if you are going to fight in the Samurai Clan Wars, you will need them :duel:

I intend to issue a new version of Samurai Wars before you start the CWC competition. It will have the morale adjusted so that valor 0 units have the same morale they had in STW v1.12 at honor 2. Samurai Wars at 5000 florins will then play like STW v1.12 at 5000 koku, but there won't be any honor sellback possible. I expect the gameplay will start breaking down pretty quickly above 6000. I might double the price of all units so it plays at 10k since that is considered a standard amount per player in MTW/VI, and I'm concerned that people won't play Samurai Wars at the intended 5k.
-
Re: STW mod Clan Wars Competition
Thanks Yuuki, was just abou to ask you about that.
Two other things.
I am assuming that with the morale adjustment, 5k should be the standard for the Competition? Want to get that nailed down for sure.
And are we aiming 3v3 or 4v4 Matches? There was some talk about the converted maps being too small for comfortable 4v4. Your call either way.
I have been drawing up a Contest Map using only maps from your STWmaps pack, and writing up a first draft of the rules. Hopefully will be presenting them for approval this weekend.
Much to do :juggle:

I'm going to go with the doubled cost idea, so 10k per player will be the standard amount. this is mostly because 10k is already an accepted standard in MTW/VI. It will play ok at money somewhat above that, but at some point the designed gameplay will breakdown. Right now, I'm only willing to say up to 12k will still play as designed. A couple of things, no-dachi cost and Japanese teppo firepower, are up for consideration to change, but I don't think I have enough feedback to do that at this time. You can drop any of the non-original STW units from this CWC tourney if you don't think they are appropriate, but if you drop naginata cav I think you have to drop Japanese teppo because nag cav is one of the key anti-units of Japanese teppo.
The standard maps are definitely too small for 4v4. I would stick with 3v3 unless you use larger maps.
