Re: Most satisfying moment
Hehehe nice, too bad AI doesn't counter cavalry that are standing around the corner, by placing a unit or two in their way, instead of charing them all forward :(
Re: Most satisfying moment
When I took over Rome. LOL the SPQR only had 6 units, and I had my big army of 18 units.
AI sux.
Re: Most satisfying moment
My most satisfying moment was when my Gothic cavalry tore down the Temple of Jupiter in Rome, and I erected a shrine to Wotan on the Capitoline Hill. ~:)
Re: Most satisfying moment
My favorite victory was as the scipii
it was probobaly only my 3rd game and i decided to invade south gaul with one of my armies, i took Narbo Martius and then noticed a cute little 22 or 3 unit Gaul army, so i did what i always do ... attack. i sent my best general 2 units of principles and a few hastati, easy battle i thought i was wrong. Suddenly i found my self ambushed. It was my 240 men under a 7 command general against 1024 screaming barbarians charging against my unorganised column.
To cut a long story short i came out victorious, the Gauls lost there whole army and i was left with 9 principles and 5 hastati and a dead faction leader. I feel it was a bit of a loss - loss situation.
Re: Most satisfying moment
Strangely enough, one of my most satisfying 'victories' was actually a loss. I had an army of about 1000 Britons caught between two Roman armies, 3500 troops between them. On the battle map, I managed to draw my lines up defending quite a steep slope against the first enemy army, only to start the battle and find the other army was starting practically behind me, on the same level of terrain.
It was one of those battles where you're constantly fire-fighting, reforming lines and moving units all over the place. Any 'plan' goes out the window and you end up fighting on the fly. I lost the battle - totally wiped out - but took 3000+ crack Roman troops with me. It felt more satisfying than most 'victories'.
Re: Most satisfying moment
Under siege by the Armenians, who had 800 troops they attacked after having put together 2 rams, in the wooden walled city I had a no star general, 2 hopolite units, one pelast unit, & two milita cav. all slighty under full str.
Normally I'd just auto resolve & avoid the humiliation, but figured I better at least try to give them a bloody nose, as I was losing on almost all but 1 front.
They attacked head on, & I sent the two hop units to hold the two wall breaches, while sending the 3 cav units round the side in the hope of routing a unit or 2 before being exterminated.
The 2 milita cav. managed to cause some minor damage to 2 velite units before running away, while my gen went down to 2 men within seconds, while I'm double clicking like crazy trying to get him out of the melee; he fled...In the meantime the gates are down & there's another breach just to the right.
Then things started to go right, the hop units held, my 3 cav units now comprising, 2 men (gen. unit) 6 & 10, stopped before leaving the field altogether. I regrouped them & started picking off the units that had been routed by the hop's at the walls. In the end their general fled & their entire army routed.
Of course the next time I tried to pull off an "against all odds number" I got a good trouncing, but hey you never know.
