PAFC: Hi there, I'm new to this game & forum too, glad to see a newbie like me around too ~D
Anyway for the first question, playing other factions are only possible only after completing the Imperial Campaign once through
The second question, using the Diplomat right-clicking on a stack that has a general will open up a window. On the top of the left, there's a bribe option, select to bribe the enemy. I know this because I tried it ~:) Bribed a Brutii family member
Re: Controlling other factions, sorry im a real noobie!
it seems that sometimes you can't bribe cities if they have a diplomat inside ... also, bribing generals should work, if the unit is without generals then it just disbands.
Re: Controlling other factions, sorry im a real noobie!
you can't bribe generals that are faction leaders or hiers. (you also can't bribe a city that the above is governing)
Re: Controlling other factions, sorry im a real noobie!
Sorry, but as far as I know, you can bribe faction leaders and cities which are in their controlling in RTW.
Re: Controlling other factions, sorry im a real noobie!
correction: heirs, but without faction leaders:-)
Re: Controlling other factions, sorry im a real noobie!
heirs should have the same status as faction leaders imho or just redicelously large bribe costs.
Re: Controlling other factions, sorry im a real noobie!
Dips cannot bribe units with 4 or more points of influence, than they currently have. So a Level 1 Dip cant bribe a level 5 Dip.
Once i found this out, i knew what i had to do, spam diplomats.
When another diplomat gets close to the city, my corps of fast-talkers each initiates(you have to start the convo) dialogue. Ill ask anything usually something far out like, gimme your map info and 10k, or ill attack. Then keep reducing my demands and maybe making a deal on something in the end. Mostly i just have my Dips spout a bunch of unreasonable demands.
It doesnt seem to matter whether your negotiations actually get agreed to, just as long as you ask questions. Ive taken a level 1 Dip and turned him to level 4 with one round of doublespeak.
Even if they dont have influence, a Dip raises the bribe cost by about 2k each, it seems. So with a large army and a corp of dips, a city could be extremely expensive to buy.
Ive just started using this in my current campaign. Ive got a modded characters_traits
file, so try it on your campaign and see if it works also. Most of my enemies have been dirt poor though, except for Greece. My territory was absolutely swarming with Diplomats though.
Ive only lost one group of soldiers to bribery, and it was inbetween cities. I doubt there was more than a troop or two in the stack, cuz i didnt miss them at all.
