Unit size and spear/sword/javelin question...
I've searched the archives, the guides and the general forum, but have been unable to find the answer to the following questions:
1) What is the max number of men in a unit? I've read that CA said 300, with some units only being able to have 256 men max. However, I've been unable to reproduce it with plain peasents. The game CTD when I put the number on 74 (in huge size this turns to 296 men).
2) Is it possible to make non-phalanx spear units to swap to swords or javelins in battle? I know that phalanx units can swap to swords, but I remember someone mentioning that it wasn't possible with non-phalanx units.

1. I think 260 is the limit.
2. holding alt will make them use their swords. But Yo would have to add it to the unit's stats and then add the anmations and models.

The 300, is for the maximum types of units allowed in game, not the maximum men per Unit in Battlemap :)

Sorry, you misunderstood me. I mean:
Can a unit like Triarii be moded to throw javelins as Primary weapon while keeping spear as Secondary one? Or spear units (except Phalanx ones) can only have one weapon?

Have you tried already? If it doesn't work then there might be some things hardcoded, since spears and pikes are something special in the engine. If still you really like to have spears and javelins, then make the unit act like a swordsman, but model it with a spear and give it spear animations.
