I'm working on the map for the Viking Age : Total War, and we are planning to have a 220*260 map.
Since our map was 255*260, I had to delete all provinces in the east (Tribus Sakae, Atropatene, Media; Babylonia, Elymais, Arabia) and edit a few others (Armenia, Tribus Alani, Colchis, Assyria, Regnum Palmyrae and Nabataea).
I either deleted all the entries in descr_strat that went farther than 220 (ressources, babylon garden) or changed their coordinates (armies, agents), thanks to -show_err.
Do you mean cut a part of the map or simply resize it?
I have cut the map to show a very small part of it (western Med).

I don't know how you did it. In my case I did it in small steps, cutting from a corner the distance necessary to keep all the maps in the same proportion (x, 2x and 2x+1). Of course if was necessary to edit some border regions.
Even if the graphic files were right the game did CTD. This problem was solved by eliminating factions and regions. The same maps with the simple distribution did work. In my opinion there is some problem with the roman factions (senate missions...?), but this is a question to investigate.
In your case I would try to eliminate all the roman factions (except the senate) just to see what happens.
If you find something interesting... ~D
Good luck. ~
Re : Reducing a map size ?
Well, it looks like the game won't launch, even if I cut only 5 pixels (making the map 250*260).
I'll try to kick out the roman factions, but well... ~:handball:
edit : got rid of the 3 roman factions, but the game still doesn't work :embarassed:
Oh well, maybe I need more landmasses or something like that
