Annoying AI Naval Battles
I like the game for the most part, but the most annoying thing in my mind is battling the enemy navy and winning and then their ability to sail halfway around the world in their escape....
It seems amazing, the distances that they are able to go....is this a bug or what???
Has anyone else noticed this compared to how far your own navy can withdraw after it loses a battle???
Re: Annoying AI Naval Battles
As best I can tell the withdraw distance for naval loss is tied to the attacker's movement range. If you use a way point system, your boats will try to withdraw in that direction from what I've seen. Helps a lot and sometimes I can use enemy attacks to give me a free move along my intended path.
Re: Annoying AI Naval Battles
Not only they can escape far from you but I dislike that there's no difficulty settings for the naval part of the game. Your fleet needs to be at least twice the size of your enemy's if you want to stand a chance... (on H and VH) It doesn't really matter for barbarian factions but for Carthage it turns into a nightmare. I just hope this feature will be in the patch.
Re: Annoying AI Naval Battles
Not to mention that there's currently a bug preventing admirals from gaining command stars. This makes naval battles all the more crummy on Hard/V Hard.
Re: Annoying AI Naval Battles
What you really need is the naval command fix that someone here made. It fixes it so that your admirals can actually get command stars. 6 biremes can stomp fleets 1/3 larger than them if the admiral has 3 stars. 3 stars that you can get if send out 4 ships to take on an AI 2 ship fleet.
Re: Annoying AI Naval Battles
Yes it helped me a lot since I fixed this bug, yet still it's not enough. I'm no gambler and don't like playing this silly game : "ok they have a single ship, will my 4 ships-fleet be able to crush them?"
