Civil War?
I recently got the "Chance for Power" event, but my popularity with the Senate is still 8 (7 with people). Is it better to wait for another faction to start a civil war (Julii has 1 popularity with Senate), or beseige as many valuable enemy settlements as I can? I'm still at war with Egypt (beseiging Memphis, took Alexandria and Thebes), and am deciding on continuing east or attacking west (Scipii). I think I'll continue east but keep an army in Memphis just in case Scipii get any ideas. Plus, it will make the Civil War a bit less surprising.
Any ideas?

Re: Civil War?
I'm guessing your Brutti? I was them, I would build up an army of mercs and amazing I MEAN AMAZING roman troops in a fort just out outside rome. Then when you are outlawed attack immediatly.
But rome is hard to conquer. And the scipii are killing me in North Africa. My advise lots of saved games frequently good armies amazing encomny and lots of diplomats.
PS do lots of reascreah on these amazing forums :book:

Re: Civil War?
It depends on how many settlements are left to conquer. If you're close to 50 then do not hesitate, march on Rome and bribe/take a few of the other Roman families's cities and you win ~;) Otherwise prepare for war but continue your expansion meanwhile until you get close enough to 50.

Re: Civil War?
If you play defiensively, that will confer a significant advantage.
I'm playing the Brutii now, and the civil war has just started. I passed up the chance to take the offensive, preferring instead to let the Senate request for the suicide of my leader. When civil war broke out, I was already in control of Mephis, Thebes and Alexandra.
I sent a strong force composed of onagers, archers, legionaries and heavy cavalry to besiege Siwa, just west of Thebes. The Scipii, of course, started sending army after army against me to try and lift the siege.
As the defender, I could sit and wait while the enemy tired themselves out, all the while blasting them with flaming missiles from my onagers and archers to break their morale.
Eventually, the city fell to my forces. I exterminated the population, destroyed everything I could destroy and then let it rebel back to Scipii control. Then I sieged it again and let the Scpii fling themselves against me again.
I continued this war of attrition until they were pretty worn out. Then I took the city, exterminated them again, installed a garrison force and continued to conquer other cities. I kept a diplomat ahead of my armies so that I could see what kind of forces the Scipii were mustering. Whenever a huge army was coming my way, I stopped and played defensive again.
The defender always has an advantage... this is true of modern warfare as well as ancient. Modern generals assume that they need at least a three to one advantage when attacking a well dug in force.

Re: Civil War?
marching on Rome is not hard, when i was playing the Brutii I made 50k a turn so i had lot's of ful banner post-marius armies.
when I got the chanche for power ( i had 5 for the senat ) i marched on rome immediatly with ,y best army im Italy, and I that same turn sieged Capua.
the only threat that you can incounter is probably from the Julii, the Scipii are no threat once you take sicili and Capua.
in my game they actually tried to relief the city of Capua with some major familie member led armies. but I won and killed al their family members, so al of their territory became rebel.
once you take Rome and destroy the other roman factions you should not have a problem with getting your last regions, since you probably have about 40-45 regions.
this worked good for me, an i'm not even a very agressive player.

Re: Civil War?
the hard part is not to get the event, the hard part much rather is spelled scippie and those enormous fleets they routinely handel, not too mention the brutii and does insane mars generals and legions. its a tough nut too crack as juli when you're fleet has the funding of about 10k denarii. i have only completed one imperial campaign by the guiding hand of the juli but too me end game is ruined by every city that wants too revolt att that stage of the game.
