Best Album of all time
Well with all these musical threads I figured Id start 1 more.
For me its again the Beatles. To me Abbey Road is the best Album ever produced. Next id go with Tommy by the Who. and Aqualung by Jethro Tull. I really am a 60s British invasion maniac ~;) I think the late 60s and early 70s were the pinnacle of roack.

Re: Best Album of all time
Tommy is definitely right up there. I think I'd include DSOTM for it's sheer ubiquity and listenability, Led Zeppelin II, The Wall for its conceptness, and my favourite Beatles album, Revolver.
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust is also a great Album

Stars by the Cranberries.

Re: Best Album of all time
Um... this is hard.
One more from the Road by skynyrd gets my vote though.
I love live albums ~;)

Re: Best Album of all time
'Fear of the dark' by Iron Maiden and 'A night at the opera' by Blind Guardian. Two amazing albums in which every song is a winner.

Re: Best Album of all time
In the rock variety for me is as follows:
Vulgar display of power by Pantera
Science by Incubus
Relationship of command by At the Drive in

Dark Side of the Moon
The White Album
Led Zeppelin I
Machine Head
Sinatra Live at The Sands with Count Basie in '65 (Outstanding album! )

Re: Best Album of all time
To try and pick even ten out of so many would give me a headache, so I'll list the first that come to mind. These were formative R&R classics for me: consistent from front to cover, excellent songwriting, brilliant performances:
A Tie for #1:
Led Zeppelin I
Led Zeppelin II
Honourable Mention: Dark Side of the Moon (spelled in British fashion because they are British).
Live Album: The Song Remains the Same

Re: Best Album of all time
There's a lot of excellent albums. ~:)
My favorites:
Linton Kwesi Johnson - More Time . Liesense Fi Kill and New Word Hawdah are two of my favorite songs ever (both unbelievable). (then you add other classics like Reggae Fi May Ayim and Hurricane Blues ). Bless the Dennis Bovell Dub Band and LKJ
Bob Marley & the Wailers - Kaya If it was up to me, then the better half of Kaya and the better half of Exodus since they were culled from the same sessions anyway, just divided into two albums. But Kaya barely edges Exodus ( Easy Skanking is just perfect, Sun Is Shining is mindblowing, Time Will Tell is heavenly, Is This Love is gorgeous, Running Away is hypnotic and the rest fills in one cohesive album). If only Exodus' Guiltiness, Waiting In Vain, Natural Mystic and The Heathen were the rest.... ~D
Other Superb (favorite) albums:
Fela Kuti - Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense. (Wow. Inspired music straight from the heart and soul of Fela Anikulapo Kuti; easily blows away his other stuff).
Laurindo Almeida - Chamber Jazz. ( Beautiful).
Hugh Masekela - Sixty. (Simply great).
Shake Keane - Real Keen: Reggae into Jazz. ( A grooving and flying delight).
~:)

Re: Best Album of all time
Tommy is a good call, I'd put Physical Graffitti ahead of Zep II (and Zep II ahead of I,III and IV).
Judging from the number of times I play it for me it would be one of Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden, obv), (self titled) Rage Against the Machine, or Floodland (Sisters of Mercy). But I want to namecheck Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger, nowhere near big enough to be a serious contender for best album ever but still very fine.

Re: Best Album of all time
Radiohead- The Bends
In Utero - Nirvana
-
Re: Best Album of all time
I think Ok Computer is Radiohead's best song. Whatever blows your whistle though.
-
Re: Best Album of all time
The Bends is more of a 'rock' album - though I loved Ok Computer- pitty about Kid A and Amnesiac- they started to disapear up their own arse.
I think Fake Plastic Trees and Just are my favouraite Radiohead songs.
I'd love to see them live again.
-
Re: Best Album of all time
The bends is a great album, radioheads best i think. Muse first album was also class

Re: Best Album of all time
Ok, heres my personal faves.
In Utero - Nirvana - I LOVE this album, by far the best Nirvana album.
Tales From The Elvenpath - Nightwish - Class.
Vs. - Pearl Jam - Best Pearl CD there is.
Without You I'm Nothing - Placebo - Great band, great album. I would suggest the Greatest Hits but outside Greatest Hits this is their best album.

Re: Best Album of all time
Elephant by The White Stripes. easily the best album of this Millenium, possibly even of all-time
-
Re: Best Album of all time
No house fans in here?
I like "You've come a long way baby" by Fatboy Slim, "Live from Brighton Beach" by Fatboy Slim and "Release Yourself" 2003 by Roger Sanchez. "Toursim" by Danny Tenaglia. Also the Hotel Costes series are great albums.
I don't think it is fair to name one album as "the best". Everyone has a special album that he associates with some memories or some feelings. Personally, I don't have one ever. I listen to something, if I like it I do it a lot. Then gradually I listen to it less and less till it is in the back of my cd case and I haven't listen to it in a year or two. By that time I've moved along and have switched tastes.

That is a live / combination of songs from different albums isn't it?
Anyway Century child and Wishmaster by Nightwish are a couple of the best metal albums ever done, such great riffs, truly amazing. Anyone who likes metal I advise they listen to them!

Re: Best Album of all time
For the sheer impact of the album, it has to be the Beatles Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - the record that changed Rock & Roll.
