I have tried make Peace whit ai several times. I could crush them but im not going to....not yet. I wiss to destroy France and Nowgorod First then others.
Thing is that I don't seem to get anything negotiated. No marriage ,no Peace ,no Alliances not even when they would really need it. My influence higest possible and I havent had so many wars. I just don't understand this.
Could someone enlighten me how does this all works in MTW:VI.
I'm playing with the English on Early at the moment. I had practically a world war in 1135(!). No allies and a couple of factions that hate my guts.
I didn't attack any allies, nor did I get excommunicated. But I was a bit of a war mongerer. Killed off France and Aragon as quickly as I could.
Here's the deal. If you don't attack factions and don't have a lot of land other factions are far more inclined to make peace with you.
If you attack a faction (or that factions attacks you) which has alliances with other factions then there's a good chance the other factions allied with the one you are attacking will cancel their alliances with you. Again this depends on your size, religion, etc.
Influence also plays a part I think. My English kings have really bad influence and crap stats despite that I'm the major power in western Europe. Other factions will think not think twice attacking your crappy nation (to their great demise).
The AI is programed to attack certain lands. Aragon for example will ALWAYS attack Toulouse, Aquitaine and Navarre. The AI will backstab you even if you're aligned with them and her allies.
Spain and the Alamohads are programmed to conquer Iberia, and will give you the same backstab treatement.
Italy, Byzantium and Sicily are programmed to have naval domination. If a big nation like you starts getting uppity in their neck of the woods they will give you the same backstab tratement.
Diplomacy has nothing to do with it.
In short, there's little reason to be diplomatic if you're ambitious. Just attack everything in sight. Try not to get excommunicated if you're a Catholic faction but in the end you probably will get excommunicated so give them hell. Forget diplomaces, it's as flawed as sea-battles and borderforts.
ps marriages rarely work. As the English though the Danish are always willing to pimp their cute little princesses. I don't know why this is.
It could be worse man. Your English, I'm plaing HRE and Am at war with England, France, Aragon, the Pope, Hungary, Poland, the Danes and the Sicilians. The only reason why I am not at war with the Italians is that they have been wiped out 20 years earlier by me and have reappeared in horrific numbers on Corsica and they have no shipping. The only reason why I'm not at war with the rest of the world (The orthodox and the muslims), is that they haven't had any opportunity to attack me. Currently, the (also in heavy numbers reappeared pope) is slowly advancing up Italy into the Alps into my Heartland. Problem for him is that every province is costing him 400+ men at arms and other high quality troops, while I lose less or about the same number of low quality troops and my archers are gaining more and more experience as they retreat out of every battle. and now he's pulling into Tyrolia, in which his one or two left men at arms will have to attack uphill through spearmen, under constant arrow fire. It's actually fun to use scorched earth tactic, as HRE has a lot of ground to use for this. And the alps are perfect defensive buffers.
Ash gave a very good description of how the AI works, but I would like to add that it seems programmed to be uncooperative. If you get too big, everyone will drop alliances and attack, even if they have no chance of surviving. This happens automatically if you reach the minor victory point. Also, if you are at war with a faction, the allies of that faction will never ally with you. They will accept your princesses, but then drop the alliance immediately for their old one. Off course, this works both ways, so it is possible to arrange marriages without having to ally.
