Cyrene - gift from the Gods
Whilst playing as Macedonia on h/h I captured Syracuse from the Greeks. Mysteriously I found I had automatically been awarded Cyrene as a free gift as well. I didn't even have any units in the province which, up till then, had been in rebel hands.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so do you know if it only happens to Macedon, and does it ever have some other catalyst than the capture of Syracuse?

Re: Cyrene - gift from the Gods
I believe your getting Cyrene is unrelated to capturing Syracuse. Cyrene seems to be one of those provinces which is set to have your faction as its "parent", i.e. the rebel population of the city share your culture. If they are conquered by an AI faction which doesn't have enough troops to garrison it properly, it will rebel to your faction. I've seen this happen in at least 40% of campaigns where both Macedon and the faction which took Cyrene are AI, and the Macedonians have never taken Syracuse.
I don't actually know of any other provinces which behave like this - anyone?

It has happened to me which is strange because you dont have to own it before hand.
Re: Cyrene - gift from the Gods
It's an oversight by CA and Activision's Q&A department. The reason why Cyrene often rebels and becomes part of Macedonia is because the province's 'founding' faction is listed as being 'Macedon' in the descr_strat.txt file. Look for the lines that have the text 'faction_creator' followed by a faction name. There are a number of provinces in the game, both faction owned and Rebel, that are listed as being founded by Macedon. Sicilia Graecus is a perfect example of this.
I believe most mods have addressed this oversight.
Re: Cyrene - gift from the Gods
How? Setting the faction to "slave" (the name for the rebel faction) causes a CTD, I've heard. You're going to have to set it to somebody.
