Cavalry Charge... from point blank. hooray

Why is it that sometimes your cavalry unit won't charge the opponent... rather it'll march into the opponent and engage in melee for a little bit... then all of a sudden you'll hear those horns blow and horses whining and the opponent's troops start flying. Is there anyway to change this?

Maybe you did not click on the enemy to attack them but rather you clicked on the ground near them.
This could be the problem.

Ahh. The point blank cav charge. Once my hastatis caught some light lancers flat-footed, from the flank. My hastatis charge with impetus, and lancers just stand still. Then.. my hastatis hit them. And what do they do? Yep, you guessed it. They charge. Without accelerating. They were just standing there, ready to get killed, and the next moment half of them have jumped over the first ranks with the rest of them charging through the same first ranks.

[HINT TO ANIMATION MODDERS]I reckon that to fix that someone should mod the horse anims so that they can't reach full charge speed in 0.1 seconds, but so that they would actually have to have some distance to whatever they are supposed to charge.[/HINT TO ANIMATION MODDERS]

I think the cavalry unit doesnt do as much damage with its charge unless it picked up some speed on the way towards the enemy. You can see the enemy units on the front line getting thrown down and go flying when you do a full out charge, but if you're close to the enemy and you charge they dont go flying as much and doesnt look like it does as much damage.

It pisses me off too how cavalry doesn't obey orders sometimes and doesn't charge properly. I dont know why maybe it's a bug or maybe when they are tired they dont obey orders instataneously.

Yeah the stupid cavalry, I ordered the damn cavalry to make a critical charge into my opponets rear but they turn around and charge a line of phalanx units that they had just ran past!!! Imagine the fustration I had!!! Bloody pissied!!! :furious3:

That's my point. They can, under some circumstances, pick up the necessary speed in 0.1 seconds.

The 1 inch punch of Cavalry Charges. If Bruce Lee was both alive and a keen horseman, he'd be proud of such a manoeuvre.
