Overpowered Chariots in Autoresolve?
I feel that chariots are way too overpowered, especially in siege battles when you autosolve the results. I know some of you will probably say that auto-resolving is weak, and that you fight every single battle there is.
Buf I mean, come on I have a 1200 mixed army with swordsmen, warbands, etc with Gauls, and I cant even win in auto-resolve against a SINGLE unit of Chariot General of the Brits in a siege battle?? I think the engine is screwed up, Chariots are supposed to be more powerful in open field, as opposed to the closed convinement of a walled city.
In open field, they're fine, although auto-resolve brings disastrous results for me there also. I do not want to fight every single battle in RTW, as I tend to like large battles only. Is there a way to mod the chariots so they'll be less lethal in auto-resolve battles?
I think the current game mechanic for chariots are fine in regular combat, so if possible I would rather not change that.

Let me guess you ran into 1 of those wonderful 3 golden chevron British chariots with some decent upgrades upon that.
Go into custom battles and recreate that generals unit.
I did that and a 3 golden chevron general with armour and weapons upgrade cost 5,000 denari. On top of that though he was the faction leader so he had a double sized unit. So basically his unit was worth 10,000 denari.
So basically after I lost 2000 hastatis/principes I figured it was better to just let the old man die or starve to death.
asassins might be a better plan of action.
Re: Overpowered Chariots in Autoresolve?
I believe, though not 100% sure, its the cost that is being calculated in Auto-Resolve. So, to weaken them, make them (generals, after all, can't be 'recruited') cheaper. And, the Auto-Resolve isn't perfect. My belief is that, with the high cost of the Chariot, it's already deadly. Now, with the bonus of the "wall defense," they're absolutely deadly in Auto-Resolve. While in truth, they're weaker because they have to fight in the limited space of the city.

The celtic chariot overpowered in auto-resolve may be the explanation to why Brittons always end up crushing Gauls and Germans in all my games ?

Interesting, that would indeed explain a lot...

If it's a lone general, fighting it out isn't so bad as bum rushing the general ends it quickly. Besides, to improve autocalc odds, slip in a spy and then use lots of cheap units. That way, you don't lose much.

Yes, but that sadly doesn't help the Gauls, as they are usually getting a severe beating by the Britons. The Germans also get beat up a lot. That is odd since those two factions should be able to crush the Britons with little effort, if combined. Yet they get defeated.
In my latest game the Britons have even taken a settlement from the Spanish while they have driven the Gauls to the province just north of Patavium and the Germans get pushed around like children. Only my intervention by asking the Julii and Brutii to attack them and supporting the Gauls, Germans and Spanish with funds have stopped their offensive.
Now we know why that is possible perhaps.
