With which LOTR character do you most identify?
Had this discussion with some friends over MSN and found it interesting, so I thought I'd pose the question here. Now that a movie has been made about it, many more people are in a position to comment. If you vote, drop a line or two or three about why you identify with or just like the character you picked.
And wouldn't you know, I've 21 options and the limit is 20 so ... I'll exclude "Other." If your pick is something other than those listed, please post it.

My choice was Smeagol/Gollum. He epitomized the compulsive addict, hopelessly caught by the object of his desire to the point where it changed him drastically and utterly.
My favorite character is and ever will be Gandalf, seemingly a Christ parallel (shepherd, resurrection, etc.)--the kind of father/grandfather figure I've always wished I had.

OMG! Where is Mery?!?! I mostly identify with Mery although I haven't seen the movies or read the books in a long time.

BP, Merry would be "Meridoc".

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
I picked Faramir, over shadowed by brother in most aspects of life. Aching for a chance to prove my worth to parents.

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
Boromir - much is expected of him, but he fails in the end.

If I were to pose this same question except regarding Winnie the Pooh characters, would I be right in my guess that you'd pick Eyore? ~D Just ribbin' ya--adding up your nick, custom title, choice, and explanation. I hope I haven't offended you with this ... .
I know the feeling well, but I also believe that oftentimes our "success" is simply not evident to us. Never understimate your impact on the world around you. We all have our place. Boromir died a noble death, defending his m8s with his life, and was a great leader among his people and admired, undestood and cherished by his brother. He was the last bastion of strength for his father. That he was tempted by the ring was a weakness, but I don't think it made him a failure. Of all the fellowship, his sacrifice was arguably the greatest. He gave his life. There is great honor in such an act, despite past mistakes.
Sorry ... I'll get off my soapbox now.

TogakureOjonin don't worry - you've not caused offense, though - I think I'm more of a Tigger - he's barmy you see.

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
If someone would kindly advise me as to which i am? following a general description of myself.
Born into a country foreign to my family. Tall and strong. I enjoy solitude as much as independence. Fairly ambitious. Very level-headed. Fairly mellow. Fairly idealist.

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
Boromir because he is the most human of Tolkien's characters. Unlike Faramir or Aragorn, he's got flaws.
Edit: That's characters from the books, not the movies. For those who haven't read the books Faramir was a lot different than in the movies. In the movies he's similar to Boromir and almost falls to the Ring's temptations. In the books he is more like Aragorn.

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
Legolas. Reputation as a deadshot with a bow, and a good tracker. Also the reasons listed by the last person to choose Legolas. My second choice: Eomer. Fearless in battle, a good tactician, awesome with a sword.

So in real life you are a battle-hardened military officer, with many victories under your belt and a penchant for bow-hunting, fencing and the outdoors? ~;)

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
Boromir. He is the only one who isnt afraid of doing what HE thinks is the right thing to do as opposed to following Gandalf/Elrong crew blindly.

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
Peregrin Took.
In both the book and movie, I screw up, causing the general badness at the tomb of Balin in the mines of Moria. I'd do about the same thing.
*Crash*
"Fool of a Took!"
Oops.

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
In high school the LOTR freaks assigned me as Meriadoc, which fit me pretty well. I have always loved Samwise's loyalty.
But, when answering this poll, I thought very deeply and had a hard time choosing between two I never thought I would consider: Frodo and Gandalf. I finally decided on Frodo.
Frodo worked incessantly on the task before him. As with Gandalf, I see a parallel in my political views. Gandalf fits my rational side. But, I think I would behave most like Frodo if I were in the situation. I also don't see mayself as "large" as Gandalf, meaning that he is larger than life and I am more like Frodo, who is just a small, very determined fellow with a cause.
I have ten fingers, though.

I would say Aragorn. He was of the Dunedain, but raised by the elves of Rivendell. He was tall and strong. As a ranger much time was spent in solitude. Though he avoided pursuing the kingship for a long time, he served many lords and kings secretly as a ranger, and was highly regarded among the elves. He was portrayed to be very level-headed, never being tempted by the Ring. He was quite mellow, even when challenged by Boromir, and Eomer. He was quite the idealist in denying to himself what most other men would have coveted, the kingship.

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
No Sauron option?
Likes big castles, megaolmaniac tendencies. Has this nagging little desire to rule the world....whats not to identify with?
Id also like to ''identify'' with eowyn as well, but thats a different story.. ~:)

Re: With which LOTR character do you most identify?
Sauron was originally an option as was Wormtongue, but I had to reduce the choices to fit the maximum poll size. That's why I suggested that, if anyone identified with a character not listed, to post it. Best I could do under the circumstances.
