I prefer NOT to have a pet, since I believe it is wrong to capture an animal simply for the amusement of the self.
I rescued mine from probable starvation out in the park. He'd been out there for quite a while and was wasted thin. I then got him a buddy from the local pound, where the second lad's chances of missing adoption and getting euthanized was quite high. I don't get the impression that either of them ever felt like they were imprisoned. I think they've grown quite fond of me, as I have of them. Well, only one left now, the original laddie. He's black, Razz was white. My embodiment of Yin and Yang, and their personalities are/were pretty much that too.
EDIT: D'oh! Forgot to mention my choice was "cats."
OK how many of you out there caught you cat, dog or bird?Quote:

Was going to vote for cat, but then I saw human female on there and had to vote for that one ~:joker:
Then there would be no dogs or cats left, is that better ?Quote:

I agree wholeheartedly, except for the cats and dogs, which are domesticated freaks.Quote:

Now now gentlemen ... this is the Frontroom and not the place for unnecessary controversy. I think the intent of this thread is clear to any reasonable person, so if someone feels the need to debate the morality of pets, please spawn your own thread in the Backroom. Thanks.
Been around animals all my life - except for some time while I was deployed overseas.
Sometimes I have come convinced that its not humans that have animals has pets - but animals who have human servants.
However given a preference I will always have a dog - either Sheltie's or Lab mixes which I have been around since a tiny little lad. A Lab taught me how to swim. As a child I would jump into the horse watering hole - filled by a old fashion windmill - and the Lab would jump in with me and we would both do the doggy paddle swim.
Lots of fun growing up with animals.
You poor sods who don't appreciate the company of animals have never benefited from the companionship and the relationship that is between a caring person and their animals.
However I don't see horses as pets - they are more like an extremely expensive hobby. However they are also a useful tool for ranch and farm life - even in todays world.
Hehe ... I was mischieviously thinking of Beirut when I included the unusual options, as it seems he is quite fond of both dogs and women. As I forgot to disable the mutually exclusive nature of poll choices, he might find himself in a bit of a quandry on this one ~D.Quote:

I am looking forward to have a first look at the cute little thing on Saturday ~:)
Human womens or I'de be one myself. I hate animals but wouldn't mind being treated like one some times if you know what I mean.
FACT: Men prefer dogs to women.
Just look at the poll.
Has to be a dog, for me. I love both cats and dogs - some cats can just come up to you in the street and want affection, such loving creatures - but dogs are just so dependable and selfless with their time, they don't get in huge moods like people do.
I voted for rats. The other rodents listed aren't worth the time of day though.
As and when I move out of London I'll get a dog, either a border collie or an Airedale terrier. Not fair to have either of those breeds in a town though.
I'm a cat man. They're suaver than dogs, and you have to work for their affection. I've got two, a tabby female with a white underbelly called Puzzle, and a black tom called Basil.
I had a rat for a pet back in junior high school. I attended a special summer school session that had us doing some cool stuff, including making stained glass windows and training rats to do tricks. After the class was over I was the lucky one who got to take our mascot home. Her name was Harley and she was too cool. Got her a wheel which she peeled out on all night long, and I loved to watch her tear up her fresh newspaper with relish and make her cave in the mess. My mom liked her too and even let us keep her in a rather large cage on the kitchen floor (which was unprecendented for a Japanese mom; but we had to keep her living space immaculately clean, of course). Man I loved that rat. She was hella smart.
What choice? there is no choice!
Might as well imply that there are people who like vanilla better than chocolate.
As if!
hehe--you could always create an alter-ego ID and vote twice ... ~:) .
cats first, dogs come a close second
had cats for most of my life (have 2 now), had a bunch of stray dogs on and off - they were not living _in_ my house, ofc, butI'd bring em in occasionally to feed them, and pet them, and especially during winters, so they can warmp up a bit.
otherwise I'd just play outside with em - they loved kids, and obeyed them almost blindly.
unfortunately, I don't think a dog would be happy in the middle of a city, among steel, glass and such - but if I ever move into a house with a decent yard, or in some reasonably remote neck of the woods, my cats will get some bigger companions ;P

Cats first... Then female humans I guess! ~:joker: I do like dogs too, but outdoors. Someday I'll learn horseback riding I hope... Oh, I like cattle too. Fond memories of the summers in moms village. ~:)

Well isn't a pony a type of horse?? If not I guess I'm revealing myself as a city boy. I certainly couldn't take a pony anywhere in my home town ... the only ones allowed are the ones pulling the tourist buggies in Old Sacramento, and the ones ridden by state troopers in Capitol Park. But that's pretty cool if you can tote them around where you are.Quote:

Well women are really cats at heart. They act much alike. Ive even heard their sexual genitalia reffered to in a feline way ~DQuote:

Anways, I went dogs.
So loyal and loving. They ask for nothing but love. And you can play fetch with them, unlike any other pets.
Crazed Rabbit
I would have to say a good dog. Dogs that run off are not as good as most cats that I have met, but a good dog is better than a good cat. Dogs are also more open with emotions. My dog hugs me with her front paws when I get home, my cat is nowhere to be found.
