Hi all. I keep reading strategy articles that say to "pump Dromons" with no mention of Galleys. Why are Dromons better (if they are)?
I believe that Dromons are cheaper and less support cost. That could be a possible explination.
They're also faster, and are thus more likely to survive (and escape) engagements.
With muslims: do you suggest dhows or baggalas? Any why?
Any while we are at it: how do you choose the other ship types: gungalleys, caravels, etc?
IIRC baggalas can move two seas zones at once and have deep water movement, which makes them a lot more handy IMHO.
Otherwise i just choose the cheapest, its numbers that count
Actually, as the Byz, Dromons cost 100 fl more, but I don't know about support costs . . .Quote:

Dhow vs Baggala
Baggala are deep sea, better attack, better defense, better strategic move, but I can't catch the Germans in mine, I would have some of both, especially if you get the +1 dhows from Tunisia.
Galley vs Dromon - Italians build galleys at reduced cost, +1 bonus in Venice. But the dromons are cheaper maintenance, and faster, I build them as my attack fleet as they usually catch up with the enemy.

RE Bad & Mfberg - Thanks for the input. I think I'll stick with galleys, 'cuz I never had a problem catching enemy fleets, only beating them. I don't think zero defense would help me out with that . . . .
