What faction is your favorite?
Simple poll.
My fav gotta be The Seleucid Empire, since you got a huge selection of different units; elephants, pikes, legionares, cataphracts, companions and so on.
Also, I wanted to find out if anyone deared come out of the cupboard and say Egypt.

Re: What faction is your favorite?
I agree with you Viking. The Seleucid's rock. They are a Greeco-Persian Empire exactly like Alexander wanted to create. They even get legions too. My only problem with them is that they are a little slow to get started and that often leads to them being swamped by the Egyptians (who are fast) when the AI is in control. If they developed faster, then when playing another faction they would be a real pain.

Re: What faction is your favorite?
Either Germania, because of the cool units and the nice 'ancenstral feeling' or the Romans, because they seem to be the ultimate war-machine and empire buiders. Since I can only vote once, I'll vote for Germania.
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
GREECE, NIKE GRAECO hoplites, hoplites and more hoplites
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
Pontus! Pontus! Pontus!
they rule
end of :charge:
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
Yeah, Pontus have many unique units, like the Cappadocians.
I`m looking forward to test `em out.
The only thing I miss though, is the upgrade of the bodyguard unit.
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
seleucid empire, like the early game, the units, and like to beat up the Egyptians
PS : did you leave out Armenia on purpose ?
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
Carthage but only because i couldnt put down more than one. If i could have more than one it would be Carthage, Thrace, Greek cities, and selucid emire. Also parthia.

Not a bad word about Armenia! ~D
I just took a couple of the unplayable factions in the poll(Spain and Scythia), and added them mostly random. I did not add all the unpl. factions to the list to not make it too long, perhaps I should?
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
It's your poll Viking
an option for unplayable factions is ok too
just thought I'd let you know , if you forgot about Armenia I cna;t let that happen ~D

Re: What faction is your favorite?
Great poll! I am just wondering what to play next!
My favorite is Germania. Cool units, challenging in the beginning, immidiatelly enemies nearby; big final in Rome;
Julii are to simple, Carthage is fun, but once you landed in Italy it is over.
Egypt is boring. Too much money!
Scythia is great too. To me very challenging, bad economy and only HA. But now I want to have some man's fight!
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
I don't really think I can vote but I'll say Scythia because I'm a cavalry commander and they've been a pretty fun faction so far into my campaign with them.
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
Carthage all the way but as Franconia said, once you land in Italy and get a city there it is all over.I sometimes wish the AI would let the Romans ignore me for a while so i can expand in a different direction.

Thanks!
You should try Parthia; bad economy HA`s, cataphracts, elephants, and some cool cataphract camels.
Also you got some terrible neighbours, like the CA`s from Armenia.
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
I like the germanians there axemen can really tear you up if you don't got anything to stop them but they have poorly armor.
They have great army but there econemy is so-so.
so it can be a little challenging but once you go as far as 210 bc your pretty much good.
but watch out for brittania and the gauls, may be neighbors but also your enemy.
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
Welcome to the .org trarii! ~
Those german Axemen are great!
It would be nice if junior members like trarii who are not allowed to vote, could post below.

Re: What faction is your favorite?
My favorite factions are the Greeks, Seleucids, Parthians and Carthage. All of them begins as rather weak and harassed factions, and there are few things as satisfying in this game than to finally defeat those backstabbing egyptians and the "oh-but-we-don't-like-diplomacy-and-ceasefire" romans.

Re: What faction is your favorite?
Its gotta be Carthage. Start with a few scattered colonies and have to forge an empire. But I do agree that once you take Italy (and you can very early in the game with Carthage) the biggest threat is out of the way. However, if you sit back and watch for a while after you kill the Romans. Odd things begin happening in barbarian country...

Re: What faction is your favorite?
I like Germania and the way they have to rush en masse somewhere before their economy collapses. It's so authentic, like the old Helvetii invasions. That, and the fact that they're the only barbarian faction with good starter phalanxes that can pwn anything on their borders whether offensive or defensive. And the axemen, ohh the axemen...
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
Germania, because Chosen Archers only take one turn to build, unlike the Archer Warbands of Gaul.
-
Re: What faction is your favorite?
Currently, the Brutii. I like infantry and pila units are just way too much fun to use. ~:) I like the balance in the early Roman armies. Hastati and Principe and such. :charge:

What is so great about Seleucids?

great economie and well probably the most diverse unit roster in the game.
from legionaries to cataphracts.
only bad thing is that they have a strong egypt on their back right from the start.

Egypt! ~
Although RTW is the wrong scene for this uber-civ. I´ve been studying egyptology now for well over 15 years so I´m passionate about them. In RTW however they´re no longer Egypt so my vote goes to any of the Romans (after the Marian reform).

Re: What faction is your favorite?
My favorite faction has to be Macedonia. i just love th idea of taking a a old super power and restoring its power.

I still don`t think anyone will admit that Egypt is their favourite faction in the game!
What Egypt was like in real life though, I don`t know.
Some says that Egypt is historically inaccurate(or something like that), how would you like Egypt to be in RTW?
You probably knows more about Egypt than any other person at these forums!

Well, the Egypt in RTW is egypt under the Ptolematic era, and it was more or less a greek state, the royal family where greeks, the architecture greek, cultural ideals greek... etc, etc.
The classical egyptian nation ceased to exist when Alexander the Great conquered Egypt, although the decline had already been going on for some time.
And I think the main reason people don't really like playing the Egyptians (or Ptolemys as they are known in some patches and mods) is because they aren't that interesting or funny. And they have far to much civil unrest.
