Re: generational litmus test
Im 23 from the Uk and i know this one, i sometimes listen to it before i play a rugby match!
The Final Countdown
Europe
We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again
It's the final countdown...
The final countdown
Ooh oh
We're heading for Venus (Venus)
And still we stand tall
Cause maybe they've seen us
And welcome us all (yeah)
With so many light years to go
And things to be found (to be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so
It's the final countdown...
The final countdown
The final countdown (the final countdown)
Ooh ooh oh
(interlude)
The final countdown
Ooh oh
I'ts the final countdown
The final countdown
The final countdown (the final countdown)
Ooh
It's the final countdown
We are leaving together
The final countdown

Re: generational litmus test
I'm 14, from the UK and I know that song. I thought it was pretty famous?
Re: generational litmus test
I'm 15, and I know that song by heart.
I could have said the text just like King Edward did.
I like the song.
Craterus, I thought it was pretty famous too, it was the only famous song of Europe, though.
Re: generational litmus test
I'm 22 and know the song, maybe it's a Europe-an thing....
:balloon2:
Re: generational litmus test
Maybe. Oh well, I pass nokhor's age test, making me around 30 in the US. Cool.
Re: generational litmus test
I've known this song for a while. It is tradition that the graduating classes (when I was in highschool) played that song every break ca. a month before they were done and had to study for exams.
edit: im 20 now, I've known the song since 17.
Re: generational litmus test
From this, we can see that 30 year old Americans are equivilent to 15 year old Europeans...

Re: generational litmus test
I'm 15, live in Canada, and know the song. How? I heard the cover by Laibach. I downloaded the original, just to see what it was like. Also, I'm pretty sure that it's in the show "Arrested Developement" as one of the character's theme-song.
Re: generational litmus test
Jesus Christ, what a terrible song :dizzy2:.
Re: generational litmus test
*visions of whining, stringy-haired, spandex-wearing goofballs who don't know rock and roll from their Goodie combs ...*
GAH!!!!!!
I remember that song in my nightmares ... if it's 80s Pop Metal ya want, why not Scorpions or Ratt or Def Leppard?
GWAHHHHHH!!!!!
*plays riff from Bill 'n Ted ...*
Re: generational litmus test
Never heard of it... maybe it's because i'm 11...
Re: generational litmus test
I'm 16, and I know the song.
Re: generational litmus test
I'm 34 and that song plagued many a part in the eighties. Terrible, but somehov the fact that you can sing along makes it great (na-na-nana-FINAL COUNTDOWN-nananana-nanananana-etc.) - or not.

If only all litmus tests were so cute. ~:( Mine is "do you remember the '80 military coup?" Early teens of today will one day ask "do you remember the '97 military coup?"

Re: generational litmus test
