your favourite time period
I was just thinking to myself how nice it would be that when I die I could go back to the time of the Ancient Picts, nice peaceful settlements, farming, fishing, no major problems ~:)
anyway if you have a chance to go back to a time period what would it be?

Re: your favourite time period
I'd love to have lived through the Sixties.

Re: your favourite time period
June 1973, when I was tall, good-looking and 16 years old. I leave up to your imagination what transpired after the party when we were the only two people in her parents' 11-room estate home with luscious garden, swimming pool and quality drinks cabinet.

Re: your favourite time period
The sixties would have been nice, all that free love. ~;)
Course I'd prefer some time in the future to be honest this time period is kinda crummy.

Re: your favourite time period
probably about 10-15 minutes ago.
i was so young and stupid then.. i thought those halcyon days would last forever.
-
Re: your favourite time period
if i had to go back it would be to my childhood, it'd be so much easier 2nd time round...

Re: your favourite time period
I'd go and live in San Fransico from around 1964 to 1972 (not that I'd kill myself when 1972 came around, but you get the idea...). I'd love to be a part of that amazing period of time, or just to experience first hand so many of the geniuses that I will never get to see...
And if you are reffering to period farther back in time, I'm not sure. I'm interested in the steppe cultures, but I'd never make it, as I'm not nearly tough enough.

Re: your favourite time period
Any point in time where the women were subserviant and plentiful.
-
Re: your favourite time period
Crete, 2000BCE.
That would be awsome. No war, plenty of loose breasts everywhere. Playing games with people all day and the money flows in from trade.

I've thought that too, but on the plus side, we will probably witness the first Mars landing and the increasingly rapid advance of computer technology. Politically, we get to see how the world works its kinks out; will we all die because the world leaders are too greedy, or will humanity find a way to work things out?
That being said, I'd love to be a warlord in a pre-Christian time period.

Re: your favourite time period
Hmmmm, well I would not say a peaceful period, because let's face it I live on conflict. So many time periods and locations to pick from, Ottoman Empire 1400's, Sengoku Jidai, Pelopannesian War I and II. No idea, probably one of those or something in the future.
-
Re: your favourite time period
Way way off in the future, our lifestyle has generally been improving as time goes on, so the farther along, the better. Something like Iain Banks's Culture in his sci-fibooks would be rather pleasant.

Re: your favourite time period
When the Pyramids and the Sphinx was built to prove once and for all they are far older than we have ever imagined or not ~;)
-
Re: your favourite time period
1914-either Austria or France (i'm one for glory)
the other time periods include
Rome- post 2nd Punic War preempire
1920s Paris
The Golden Age of Athens (definately before the pelloponnesian war)
theres some other great ones.

Re: your favourite time period
I think the most civilised time was in the second half of the nineteenth century with next to modern conviniences yet few of the modern problems. Ah, to be a young aristocrat in the 1880s! House in London with servants, Country estate, commission in a noble regiment of cavalry and so forth. One could even be proud of Britain (Empire)! However, I think the most interesting times were in the Middle Ages and the 18th century, so to,live in those times could have been good.
-
Re: your favourite time period
To live in? None of the medieval times, thank you very much. Too grubby.
But I wouldn't have minded living in the time of Khusrau Anushirvan in Sassanid Persia... as a noble. Or ancient Rome... as a patrician.
But what I would have liked was to be born on the same place I have actually been born, CuraƧao, but then somewhere around 1905 so I could've enjoyed the roaring twenties in the Caribbean ~D
I also would've loved to have experienced the 1890s and the first decade of the 20th century... wonderful time. At least back then there was honor to be found in the spirit of men everywhere, at least in those of my countrymen the Dutch. I think I would've gone to live in either Cuba, South Africa or Dutch East India.
But furthermore I highly enjoy my current life. Except for the few discrepancies I see nowadays, mentioned above, I like it a lot. ~;)

Re: your favourite time period
Wherever and whenever the Great Temple of Aphrodite was. ~D
Otherwise:
961-1025: The three Byzantine general-emperors: Nicephorus II, John Tzimisces & Basil II Bulgaroctonus.
Sengoku Jidai.
1040-1100: Robert Guiscard and his Normans conquer Sicily, southern Italy and wage war on Byzantium.
When Genghis Khan was around :charge:

Re: your favourite time period
No takers for June, 1973?
Anyone for 29 July, 1981, around 14.00 hrs then? When the whole of Madrid was watching Charles and Diana's wedding (la Boda had been cheered and commented in the Spanish boulevard for months), the streets and crossings of that otherwise insanely busy city were deserted and me and my girlfriend, lying on a blanket in that piece of lush green central park with not even a dog in sight...
Never mind.. it's June 8th, 1815, in Waterloo for me! :charge:

Re: your favourite time period
A nice British colony somewhere in India or Kenya, anytime from 1890 - 1900. That would be nice. Sit around, smoke, shoot animals.

Yes, being an officer in Wellington's staff would have been good.

Then you'd better have gotten your arse over to South Africa and taken a nice Dutch landstead in Natal or the northern Cape Province -- provided I hadn't already. ~D

Re: your favourite time period
I'd love to have been born in the early fifties. Then, by the time i'd have grown up, i'd join about 50 bands, get drunk, get mashed out on dangerous amounts of drugs, have a hope in hell of landing a record deal, or being a roadie with as many famous bands as possible.
Alternatively, if i did my childhood over, i'd change so much. My first act would be to establish some kind of racketeering system in my high school.
You always get the great ideas when it's too late, i guess. ~:handball:

Re: your favourite time period
During the reign of Her Majesty Victoria, of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, and Empress of India. 1837-1901. The peak of the Empire, and home to a great variety of interesting wars. I would have gone to join the Royal Scots Greys of the Life Guards as an officer, though...
